PHOENIX AND LO MOON LIVE

PhoenixPhoenix and Lo Moon Live
As a music lover and reviewer there are certain moments that are magical. There is nothing better than finding that amazing new artist or witnessing a great live show. The Phoenix and Lo Moon concert at New Haven’s College Street Music Hall on October 15th definitely fits the latter. The expectations of the packed house was high and both bands absolutely delivered.

Lo Moon opened the show with a short but intense set. “Thorns” , their newest single, was an atmospheric exercise to lost love. Matt Lowell’s vocals were hauntingly beautiful. “This Is It” continued the trance like aura and the audience was mesmerized. Sam Stewart’s (son of The Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart) guitar set the mood perfectly and Crisanta Baker’s bass and backing vocals amplified the whole effect. After “Real Love”, Lo Moon ended their performance with “Loveless”, a melodic tune that carried the band perfectly into the sunset. In the end Lo Moon gave a superb performance by a promising new talent.

Phoenix opened their headliner spot with J-boy off their newest release Ti Amo. They had the crowd from the first note. Thomas Mars was spectacular. His rich vocals and fluid style solidifies Phoenix’s upbeat indie sound. “Lasso” from their earlier album Wolgang Amadeus Phoenix had their fans totally immersed.

By the time Phoenix hit “Lisztomania” the assemblage was in rapture. Deck d’Arcy (Bass), Christian Mazzalai (Guitar), Laurent Brancowitz (Guitar), and touring members Robin Coudert (Keyboards) and Thomas Hedlund (Drums) kept the beat tight.

Near the end the band played “Ti Amo” and “Tuttifrutti” back to back and everyone was either dancing or swaying to the flow. The four song encore was just icing on the cake with an acoustic version of “Goodbye Soleil” and a rousing finale of “1901”.

Thanks to Phoenix and Lo Moon for one of the best shows of the year.
