WOODBURY BREWING COMPANY – A BREWERY SPOTLIGHT

Another road trip for the AMP brewery crew (wife Jenn, sister Yvette and brother -in- law Alan). Since our last trip to Timberyard was a huge success we decided to check out the Woodbury Brewing Company which is located in the rear of  the Middle Quarter Mall in Woodbury, Ct.

The Woodbury Brewing Company is more of a hybrid being mostly saloon and part tap room.  It contains a fair sized bar, a full stage and a decent amount of tables. With a full schedule of artists, Woodbury marries the world of music and brewing quite well. Just be ready to pay a cover charge which fluctuates depending on the act.

At the door we met the General Manager, Josh Metz . Right off the bat he was friendly and welcoming. When I explained I would be writing a review he was very accommodating. Later in the evening he gave me a personal tour of the brewing section and you can see he was quite proud of the diversity of their beer.

As we arrived on the late side, the front tables and bar were full. We found a table in the back which suited us fine. The night’s band Switch Factory was ready to play.

Checking out Woodbury‘s extensive brew selection consisting of their own concoctions and an excellent grouping of guest beers, we decided to sample several. I went for for the “Romanov” , a Russian Imperial Stout and was not disappointed. My brother-in law and sister went for the IPA, “Collusion” which they totally enjoyed. The only negative was  the “Woodbury Light” which my wife found needed a little more substance.

Even though Woodbury doesn’t have their own kitchen, they have partnered with several restaurants in the vicinity. We didn’t order any food as we had already eaten but the menu was stocked with bar food staples.

Another plus is the Woodbury staff. As previously mentioned Josh was very amicable. Jessie, our server was great. She made sure we were well stocked and took time to talk. She really enjoys working at Woodbury because every shift is different. Each night is a new adventure. Jessie enjoyed the fact that every evening always has a good blend of ages and personalities. The mixture of the younger and older clientele seems to mesh fine.

The best part of Woodbury is the atmosphere. It’s a fun place. The band was rocking and the place just jumped with excitement. It also had really good assortment of classic video games where we witnessed many groups really having a ball.

Owner Allan Cetrone and his business partners, (Taylor D’Alexander, Ken Mair and Tim Budrewicz) started brewing beer as a hobby in a barn. And what a barn that must have been because it inspired the Woodbury Brewing Company.

Remember it’s more a bar than a tap room but if you want to have a good time and let loose by all means take a step in cause you’ll definitely won’t regret it. It’s a good spot for both the locals and the passing through. Pairing good brew with a great variety of music doesn’t hurt either. In fact two of our crew are going back to catch a band that caught their fancy. Party on.
