FUEL LIVE AT THE MOHEGAN SUN ARENA
AMP’s newest correspondent, Joe Perusse, has submitted a couple of reviews of recently attended shows. An avid music lover and concert goer, we expect a lot wonderful insights from Joe.
FUEL
Flashback to March of 2020, Mohegan Sun Casino was putting on a free concert for Momentum members. I checked in to pick up my tickets, went to grab something to eat, and when I walked out of the restaurant, the scrolling marquee said the show was cancelled because of the uptick in the Corona Virus. Thus began the long drought of live shows.
Forward to Sunday August, 15, 2021 and a free show was back on schedule. Fuel would be appearing with their new lead singer, John Corsale. The Corona Virus couldn’t stop the music this time and the band sounding great mixing in a few new songs amongst their many hits. I think Corsale did the big Fuel hits, “Shimmer”, “Bittersweet” and “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)”, justice with his vocals and the crowd happily sang along throughout the evening.
Some of the songs Fuel played during their performance brought memories of days past. Opening with “Last Time”, the band’s 19 song set was full of dynamic tunes. Of course everyone enjoyed their charted hits but the lesser known songs also rang true. “Hard”, “Falls On Me” and “Bad Day” also brought cheers. Several new compositions were also well received including their new single, “Don’t Say I”.
KINGS OF LEON
The Kings of Leon show was my first trip to the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport. I was amazed at how intimate the venue was. Didn’t look as if there is a bad seat in the house. Cold War Kids, a band from Long Beach, Ca., opened the show and did a great job getting the crowd ready. As soon as Kings of Leon took the stage the crowd was up singing and dancing along. I know lead singers need to do their “shtick” but Caleb Followill really seemed surprised by the outstanding response of the Bridgeport fans. I really only knew the big hits going into the show but was kept captivated by the musical journey put on the band.
The Kings of Leon set list included their top hits including “Sex On Fire”. “Use Somebody” and “Closer”. But other strong songs like “The Bandit” off their newest release, When You See Yourself, had the audience rocking. A glorious night in a beautiful new venue.
Joe Perusse: is a high school teacher and coach whose three children are musicians, Garrett (Drums), Jagger (Guitar/Bass) and Kassi (Keyboards). He’s been ardent concert attendee since his first live show, AC/DC, in 1981. AMP welcomes his observations and acumen.
