NAKED GYPSY QUEENS – AN INTERVIEW & SINGLE REVIEW

The high-powered Tennessee quartet, Naked Gypsy Queens, have released a potent new single, “Georgiana” from their forthcoming EP slated to drop in late 2021 on Mascot Records. Formed while all four members were still in high school, the band built their audience the blue-collar way: by plugging in, tuning up and playing out.

Naked Gypsy Queens is comprised of Chris Attigliato (Lead Singer/Guitarist), Cade Pickering (Guitar), Bo Howard (Bass) and Landon Herring (Drums). Their sound is dynamically raw. Combining the ragged edge of southern rock and classic blues with a new unbridled ferocious energy, the NGQ have created an original sound that’s bold and brazen. Similar to The Georgia Thunderbolts, Naked Gypsy Queens have mastered that amazing bridge between their influences and creating something intensely fresh.

Speaking about the band, frontman Attigliato says: “Our goal was to become the baddest live band around. We were loud. We were a band you had to see onstage. It started to become a cult thing, with line forming around the block at some venues. We weren’t trying to achieve the the highest number of digital streams; we were just doing what we wanted to do, and making the music we wanted to make. As it turned out, we were pushing some buttons too“.

“Georgiana” is a monstrous single full of aggressive riffs and memorable hooks. The song is an explosive barrage with guitars a-blazing and a colossal backbeat. Attigliato’s vocals are raunchy and lavishly soulful. The entire song is a magnificent aural eargasm full of edgy swagger. The tune was recorded with the assistance of studio veterans, Marlon Young, Al Sutton and Herschel Boone who previously worked with Greta Van Fleet.

The following is an interview the band has graced AMP.

AMP: Can you give the AMP readers a brief history of the band?

NGQ: Naked Gypsy Queens was started in the spring of 2017 by lead singer and guitarist Chris Attigliato, guitarist Cade Pickering, bassist Bo Howard an drummer Landon Harring. After meeting in high school and realizing we shared similar musical tastes (The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, MC5 and Pink Floyd), we immediately formed a band and started playing local venues around Franklin, Tn., eventually transitioning to Nashville, at only 18 yeas old. In the fall of 2019, we recorded our new EP at Rustbelt Recording Studios produced by Marlon Young, Al Sutton and Herschel Boone.

AMP: How would you describe your music?

NGQ: Our music is meant to be a shared experience between the band and the listeners, created through amplified vibrations ranging in dynamic form stemming from each band member to create one distinct sound.

AMP: Your new single, “Georgiana” is a kick ass piece of rock and roll. Where did the inspiration come from?

NGQ: It was written during a soundcheck before a show we had. After the show we brought it back to the rehearsal space and the song basically wrote itself. We really didn’t have an inspiration for that song, it just came out of nowhere.

AMP: The band is signed to a new label (Mascot Records). How did that come about?

NGQ: Our manager, Kevin Reilly, is the one who sat us down to put together a whole plan. He’s been a huge driving force for us since day one. We set goals to keep us on track and always tried to be the best that we could be, and eventually it caught the attention of some labels, and we decided that Mascot Records was the best fit for us.

AMP: If you could share the stage with any artist, past or present, who would it be?

NGQ: The Red Hot Chili Peppers without a doubt.

AMP wants to thank the band for their time and energy. “Georgiana” is an imposing single and we can’t wait for the release of the new EP.
