Beyond Gravity is an alternative rock band formed in 2019 and hailing from Providence, Rhode Island. Catching their recent performance at a Halloween party at Fete Music Hall in their hometown, I was very impressed with their strong vocals, interesting lyrics and spot-on musicians. Although Beyond Gravity opened the show, this talented group was more than good enough to headline. Transitioning effortlessly from melodious acoustic guitar ballads to bottom heavy harder grunge rock songs, the crowd immediately fell under the band’s captivating spell.

From the moment the band landed on Fete’s stage, the previously chatty, mingling crowd gravitated toward Beyond Gravity‘s magnetic energy. Lulled by Dustin’s pure yet edgy vocals, heavy bass lines, thundering drums and a melodious partnership of smooth acoustic and soul-snatching electric guitars, the party guests were happily sucked into the band’s intoxicating vortex. Beyond Gravity‘s impressive set included Revolution, You Started a War, Heroes Seem to Fall, Got Nowhere to Go, Parasite, Run in Place, You Are, You Are and Oceans. Beyond Gravity has been busily touring and promoting their recently released debut EP The Nature of Your Game, available for purchase through their website.

KATE: Loved the show! You have made a fan of me. So, tell me, where are you all from, when did you first start playing instruments, and who are your musical influences? I’m always interested to know about musical backgrounds.

EDDY: I’m local, from Rhode Island and started playing guitar back when I was 12 or 13. My musical influences are all over the place – I don’t discriminate!

DUSTIN: I’m originally from PA and I always loved singing music from when I was really young, whether in school or at church. When I got to elementary, I picked up playing the trumpet and was always first chair eventually getting into improv in the high school jazz band. In college I started playing around on my roommate’s guitar and couldn’t put it down. I instantly started writing my own songs and tried my hand as a singer/songwriter.

After college I was in and out of bands and then eventually moved up to RI for a job but met a few like-minded musicians and we started really getting into the local band scene. Over the last 3 years we formed what you know now as Beyond Gravity. My main musical influences are 90s early 2000s style Alternative and Grunge rock including Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Staind, Thirty Seconds to Mars and 3 Days Grace.

ROB: I’m from Attleboro, youngest kid of 8 children. One of my older brothers played drums when I was growing up, and I used to play his drums when he wasn’t around, but he’d always find out and get mad. That’s how I learned to play drums, never took a lesson. Influences are all over the board from Nothing but Thieves, to Pearl Jam, to Peter Bradley Adams.

WALTER: I started playing guitar at 13, I had to teach myself because I’m left-handed and my guitar teacher wouldn’t teach me anything unless I played right-handed, then he lost his patience because I struggled to play right-handed…so from 13 on I self-taught and there was no YouTube or anything to learn from. I just played along to CDs, trial and error. Influenced by everything from Iron Maiden to Sade. I prefer heavier music/metal…

KATE: If you weren’t musicians, what career path would you have taken? Unless you already have time for day jobs?

EDDY: I’m a digital marketing consultant and have run my own agency for the last 8 or 9 years, so I’d still be doing that.

DUSTIN: I always wanted to be a professional snowboarder, but I don’t mind my day job and love my family, so I’m ok with the path that I’m on.

ROB: I think if I didn’t play drums, I would have maybe focused more on sports.

WALTER: I’m not a professional musician so my career path isn’t music. That’s the hobby.

KATE: And my hobby would be listening to music. Indulge me with a silly question: If Beyond Gravity released a set of action figures, what two accessories would each figure include?

EDDY: A guitar in each hand, obviously!

DUSTIN: A 6 pack of IPAs and a microphone with chord swinging action.

ROB: Our action figures would probably include a cowbell and nunchucks.

KATE: Congratulations on BG’s success! What is the best way for fans to get their hands on your releases?

BEYOND GRAVITY: Thanks! BeyondGravityBand.com, Beyond Gravity – should be on all of the other popular streaming platforms, too.
