BRET MICHAELS – LIVE – AT MOHEGAN SUN ARENA

Thursday night the Bret Michaels Band rolled into the Mohegan Sun Arena for a private concert for players club members. I have been to a few of these shows over the years and am usually disappointed in the crowd. Because people are not paying for these shows, a lot of times the crowd is lethargic and leaves after a few songs. Thursday was quite the opposite. There was a good crowd, even people surrounding the upper bowl. The fans were out of there seats dancing, singing and having a good time all the way till the end. The 2022 touring edition on this night featured Michaels, best known as the lead singer of Poison on vocals and guitar, Pete Evick on lead guitar, ‘Stormin’ Norman Voss on bass and Proud Mary on drums.

The member only shows are usually a quick hour packed with hits and this night was no exception. The set was heavy on Poison songs which is what this reviewer wants to hear at a Bret Michaels show. “Talk Dirty to Me” led off the evening followed by “Look What the Cat Dragged In” and “Ride the Wind”. Michaels was very appreciative of the crowd and talked about all the support the state his given him dating back to Poison at Lake Compounce. I miss those Lake Compounce shows, some great acts and great times from my youth. One of two non Poison songs was next, a cover of Loggins and Messina’s “Your Mama Don’t Dance”.

Back to Poison hits for “Something to Believe In” and “Unskinny Bop”. The crowd was loving the energy and the band was feeling the love of the crowd. Next, Proud Mary was given a chance to shine with her drum solo. It was strange to me that the set included a drum solo and not usually my favorite part of any show but I was entertained tonight. It wasn’t too long and it was nicely done. The band came back with my favorite Poison song “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” followed by “Nothin’ But a Good Time”. I may have closed with that as the night was nothin’ but a good time, even won a few dollars. Michaels ended the evening with a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”.

Glad I headed out on a Thursday for great hour of good old rock and roll.
