GUNSHINE

Gunshine is a four piece all-devouring rock band from Pensacola, Fl. who have just released their self titled debut album. The band boasts a hard hitting sound that can satisfy fans of classic rock as well as devotees of modern music. Their songs have blistering guitar solos, dynamic riffs and spectacular vocals. Gunshine thrives on muscular rhythms and driving soundscapes in order to capture the musical sensibilities of the masses.

Gunshine is comprised of New Years Day’s guitarist, Austin Ingerman, Jordan Benson (Vocals), James Renshaw (Drums) and Pat Brown (Bass). While spending all of 2020 and 2021 writing and recording their album, they honed in on what was important to them and how to stand apart. They used their influences such as Guns N’ Roses and Motley Crüe to build a baseline. Then they added modern nuances to create something singular. Gunshine‘s ingenuity delivers a fresh and novel record of infinite appeal.

Drums and guitars were recorded at Clearwave Studio in Decatur, Alabama with engineer Jeremy Stephens (Gregg Allman, Alabama Shakes). Vocals were tracked in Las Vegas with producer/engineer Chris Collier who has worked with Korn, Whitesnake, Mick Mars, Lynchmob, and more. The album was also mixed and mastered by Chris Collier.

The album, Gunshine, is a monster. “Loud’ is slamming with buzzsaw guitar riffs and crushing vocals. Brown’s bass is killer and Renshaw’s percussions hit like a sledgehammer. Ingerman’s guitar solo is ferocious. It’s a great opener. “Daylight” continues the barrage. The vibe is divine with a brazen arrangement and forceful vocals. Benson’s voice is full of edgy fervor and once again Ingerman reigns supreme. His guitar is as sharp as a knife with an avalanche of imposing accents. The harmonies work perfectly.

“Live Free, Get Wild” is full of excitement. Renshaw’s drums are barreling and crisp. The guitar solo has a fluid feel. “Wall Said To Call” is another banger. It exudes a massive rhythm that defies you not to move. The song cranks with a kaleidoscope of sound. This will definitely be a tour favorite. “Feel Alright” contains a bluesy feel and Benson’s vocals are captivating. “Feel Alright” dispenses an anthemic quality. By this point, Gunshine is throwing out a heavenly blast of pure rock.

“Change Today” and “No Way” follow. Both songs have a gnarly cadence and a punchy sound. “Playing With Fire” brings in more heat. The ambiance is stellar. Ingerman’s guitar has a palette full of addictive textures and Benson’s vocals are incendiary. The backbeat is voracious. The track is a flaming bulldozer. Gunshine closes out with “Something Real” and “Meet You There”. It’s an ideal ending to a sonic jewel of a release.

Gunshine throws the rule book out and plays it straight from the heart, no tricks, no frills, no BS. This is rock-n-roll, the kind you’ve been missing.
