INFECTED RAIN – A CONVERSATION WITH LENA SCISSORHANDS

Nu-metal powerhouse Infected Rain have just released their forceful fifth full length, Ecdysis (Napalm Records). The album is a hulking beast full of rugged guitar riffs, incendiary musical structures and devouring vocals. The Moldovan modern metal titans stand on the precipice of superstardom. Their music is aggressive, brazen and intensely brutal. Infected Rain hits hard and delivers a pulverizing punch. This band is not for the fainthearted.

Fronting Infected Rain is the ruthless Lena Scissorhands on vocals. Her voice is utterly amazing. She can shift effortlessly from demonic dirty screams to harmonically clean vocals. Scissorhands is a potent entity that discharges infectious bolts of volatile ferocity. She is surrounded by a group of outstanding musicians. Guitarists, Vadim Ojog and Sergey Babici are beasts. Their guitar licks are ferocious. Bassist, Vladimir Babici lays down a devastating bass line while drummer Eugene Voluta is voracious. We featured his brother and Infected Rain‘s producer, Valentin Voluta (Seas On The Moon), a few months ago.

Ecdysis is monumentous. Every track is a savage jewel of pummeling potency. The album successfully demonstrates ultramodern violence without sacrificing emotion and melody. It showcases a new layer of Infected Rain that longtime followers and new fans alike will embrace.

Frontwoman Scissorhands adds about Ecdysis:

“While the whole world was in a deep depression, Ecdysis was slowly but surely maturing. The time in isolation away from all our plans and goals, away from loved ones and the stage, brought out something so new and different in us. A new chapter starts with this album, a chapter of raw emotions and complete commitment”.

AMP is very fortunate to have Lena Scissorhands answer a few questions for this interview.

AMP: How would you describe your music?

LENA: Raw, real and emotional.

AMP: Your new album, Ecdysis is extremely raw. Do you feel it’s an evolution in style from your previous releases?

LENA: Honestly, we think that it is just what mirrors our mood and life for the time surrounding this album. Just like every album we released prior to this one, Ecdysis is full of the strong emotions we were all feeling during the past two years.

AMP: Ecdysis is the shedding of an outer coat or skin. What is Infected Rain casting off?

LENA: Ecdysis is the metamorphosis and the new phase of life in biology. With this metaphor we wanted to bring a glimmer of hope. Hope for a better world, a better society and a better version of ourselves.

AMP: What are some of the central themes encompassed in Ecdysis?

LENA: There are many personal songs that have themes like abandonment, loneliness, letting go, cleansing, protecting ourselves etc. There are also very global themes like hunger, power and loss.

AMP: How was it working with Valentin Voluta as a producer?

LENA: Valentin is our producer since the very first album. We are very close friends by now. Also, he is the brother of our drummer, Eugene. We absolutely love working with him because he is very talented and skilled when it comes to music. He knows exactly what we want and how we want it without explaining too much.

AMP: Who are several artists who have shaped your sound?

LENA: I think music in general shape us as people and as artists. There are other things that influence musicians, I think, especially in our case. We get inspired by everything surrounding us. Music, books, movies, nature, people etc. All of this can be a big part of what influences a musician.

AMP: Are you excited about your upcoming North American tour?

LENA: Absolutely. We can’t wait to tour again in general. But, yes after our first American tour we just had to come back again.

AMP: What’s next for Infected Rain?

LENA: Touring as much as possible, honestly. We really really miss sharing our music with the world. Live shows are so important for musicians and listeners.
