LOZ CAMPBELL – ARTIST SPOTLIGHT AND EP REVIEW

By Ralph Beauchamp

The audacious Loz Campbell strikes again. She just released her self titled five song EP to rave reviews and fans’ delight. Loz is magical. Her brilliant songwriting and guitar playing are masterful. Her vocals deliver a gutsy verve that is merciless. In addition, she has the the passion of a fury. Her music is forceful, adventurous and full of voracious textures. She’s a spitfire and she surrounds herself with excellent musicians. Loz‘s band consists of Alice ABomb (Rhythm Guitar), Steve Pickles (Bass) and Tom Kerby (Drums).

Loz Campbell is a fierce, incendiary front woman/guitarist hailing from Yorkshire UK. Known for prowling the stage with her sultry, alluring vocals and spicy guitar riffs. A compelling modern take on alternative rock, that will have heads swaying in heavy grooves that are familiar, yet unique. She has toured throughout the UK and leaves bodies wherever she plays. Her emboldened melodies and all devouring riffs plainly slay.  Previous singles were played on Planet Rock, featured in Classic Rock magazine and included in Earache records successful ‘New Wave of Rock n Roll’ compilation album. Not one to stay still for a moment and ever evolving as an artist.

Campbell‘s new EP is wonderfully aggressive. The first song up is “Bad Girl” which she reprises later in a live version. The track is full of dramatic tension and vitality. Loz‘s vocals are meteoric with a menacing flair. Pickle’s bass is crushing while Kerby’s percussions are intense. Every note has a brilliant flourish. “Beautiful Liar” contains stellar guitar licks and a sonic cadence. The flow has vigor and imports a passionate stamina. Campbell‘s vocals have a fresh tinge with a spellbinding undertone. Additionally, her voice exudes an exotic elegance. The tune distributes a memorable barrage of aural enchantment.

“Coffee Cup” is next. The supersized beat is intoxicating. Again, Loz‘s vocals stand out bearing a ruthless edge. Her guitar solo is brassy while the whole track has balls. The backbeat is a spunky funfest of sound. Campbell knows how to explode with an exquisite sparkle. “Coffee Cup” shines brightly. Her live presentation of”Bad Girl” is next and you can feel her heat. Loz closes out with “The World Was Made To Destroy You Live”. The song once again highlights her strong performance skills and rampaging aura. Think Joan Jett meets the Ramones. The track is crushing.

Loz Campbell is currently touring the UK. Don’t miss her. I can’t wait till she finally hits the States. She will absolutely raise hell.
