LYNCH MOB & SAGE KING LIVE @ THE JAMESON PUB

It’s a Friday night, June 23, 2023 and I am on my way to a sold out show at The Jameson Pub in Watertown, CT. George Lynch of Lynch Mob and Dokken will be headlining and we are all excited to see this phenomenal guitar player shred on his prototype guitar that is not yet available to the public. I arrive at The Jameson and I am greeted with a hug from Scott Weaver, the owner, who is a great guy! I love the friendly atmosphere here and it is such a nice Irish Pub that hosts live music every week as well as serving some terrific food. If you have not been here yet, I highly recommend this place.

I have arrived early and I am hanging out up front so I can photograph the show along with a few other amazing photographer friends. This is definitely my kind of night! At 8 pm sharp we are in for a real treat as Sage King comes out on the stage. He is the new singer for the band Living Wreckage but also does his own acoustic music. This is my first time seeing his acoustic act and wow! I knew he would be great but let me tell you, his voice is hauntingly beautiful and I was as entranced as everyone else in the
audience.
Sage King has been playing out since he was 13 years old, pretty much everywhere within a 50 mile radius of Enfield, Ct. Not surprisingly, he was the winner of the Jack Daniel’s Battle of the Bar Bands. This young man is quite the entertainer and I can see him going very far in his career. He’s an extremely talented singer, song writer, and guitar player. I am looking forward to seeing him sing for Living Wreckage, a very accomplished and skilled band.
Sage King will be playing at the Broad Brook Opera House on July 15, 2023 at 3 pm at their first annual summer house party. You must get out there and see him! The Jameson is completely packed as we wait for Lynch Mob to hit the stage. They come out playing “She’s Evil but She’s Mine” and wow do they sound fantastic! The crowd is loving this. The band is a group of tight, on point musicians. George Lynch is 68 years old and looks to be in tip top shape and sounds phenomenal.
Lynch is definitely one of the most famous and influential 1980’s metal guitarists. He has not lost dexterity in his hands but he also doesn’t play the same as he used to. He is not trying to be the guy he was in the 80’s, playing at super-sonic speed. Also, he is not trying to impress other guitar players as much as he did in the past. Then again he’s a legend, and as far as I am concerned he doesn’t need to.
In addition, he is not a technical player. From what I have seen of his playing, he’s very choppy but I mean that in a good way. He is a very talented musician and I could watch him play for days! George Lynch plays from the heart and you can see the emotion in his face while he is playing. He feels the music and flows with it.
George Lynch came into the metal scene in the 1980’s in a band called Dokken who hailed from Los Angeles, CA and he became a world-renowned guitarist, respectfully earned. He then started Lynch Mob in the early 90s with great hits such as “Wicked Sensation”. Lynch was born on September 28, 1954 and he is ranked number 47 on “100 Greatest guitarists of all time” by Guitar World magazine and number 10 on “Top 10 Metal Guitarists of All Time” by Gibson.
The genres he plays are glam metal, heavy metal, hard rock, and neoclassical metal instrumental. Dokken had a bunch of very successful Platinum albums that feature Lynch’s inventive lead guitar work. “Mr. Scary” which is on the Back For The Attack album is one of the best instrumental songs in metal! Of course he played this song midway through his set and as always, it was killer. Definitely an all time favorite of mine.
Lynch released his first solo album Sacred Groove in 1993. In late 1994 he released an “unplugged” show entitled One Live Night. Eventually Lynch took Lynch Mob in an entirely new direction with a very radical new look. It was a completely new lineup, as well as a new musical approach. This was a great move as they pulled in and attracted a much younger crowd and that was very apparent at the show I attended. There was an eclectic mix of old and young, with my 16 year old up front having the time of his life. Lynch Mob released the album Smoke This in 1999.
At the show, Lynch was playing a beautiful prototype guitar that will be released, I believe, next year, I know my son was coveting this guitar as it was a beauty with a camouflage look to it. The current lineup of Lynch Mob is George Lynch on guitar, Gabriel Colon on vocals, Jimmy D’Anda on drums, and Jaron Gulino on bass. These guys know how to put on a show and you can see they have a lot of fun performing. They were cracking jokes with the crowd and amongst themselves and it was terrific seeing
their enjoyment.
Lastly they played my favorite song “Wicked Sensation{” and what a great way to end the night! Thank you to Lynch Mob, Sage King and Scott Weaver of The Jameson for such an amazing evening.
