SOUND ON SOUND – SEASIDE PARK – SEPT 30TH – OCT. 1ST
Founders Entertainment, Live Nation and Howard Saffan are bringing the sophomore edition of the Sound On Sound music festival back to beautiful Seaside Park in Bridgeport on Sept. 30th and Oct. 1. The inaugural fest last year was a huge success even though there were many difficulties in the execution. That is totally expected for a first take. The organizers have learned what pitfall to avoid this time and vow to make thing run smoother with less confusion.
Last year Sound On Sound had an impressive lineup with The Lumineers, Stevie Nicks, Brandi Carlile, The National and The Head and the Heart just some of the illustrious talent showcased. The music was fine but there was a lack of food vendors and water supply to handle the large crowd. People had to wait hours to get something to eat and drink. Also, there was poor wifi and a lack of organization. Even with all these problems, the festival was an artistic success. With no overlapping sets on two adjacent stages, everyone was able to catch every performer if they wished.
This years Sound On Sound ups the ante. The Red Hot Chili Peppers headline on Saturday while Ct’s own John Mayer takes the top spot for Sunday. In addition, such renown artists as Alanis Morissette, Hozier, the Trey Anastasio Band, Steel Pulse, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats and Gin Blossoms are set to perform. Like last year’s breakout artist, Noah Kahan, this year also holds some “up and coming” amazing talent. Joy Oladokun, Julia and the Seratones (another Ct. act) and Mt. Joy are incredible upstart performers slated to play. Add Dispatch, Lord Huron, Margo Price, Ben Harper and several other acts and this year’s festival is a standout.
Sound On Sound is also remeding the food and refreshment aspect which was so troublesome last year. They have expanded their food vendors and food trucks. They are using acclaimed outlets such as Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ, Zuppardi’s Apizza, The Blind Rhino, Fire Engine Pizza Co. and a host of others to ensure that everyone can order and receive food in a timely fashion. There will also be a craft beer hall that will cater to everyone’s taste and feature breweries such as Two Roads and Kona. Additionally, there will be a “Seaside Wine Grove” to offer another beverage option. Sound On Sound is stacking the deck to facilitate their patrons every need.
The Connecticut music scene is booming with Bridgeport being a central hub. The city already hosts the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater which delivers top notch entertainment. The Black Rock district also adds several dynamic venues such as Park City Music Hall. Furthermore, New Haven is no slouch. Westville Music Bowl, Cafe 9 and College Street Music Hall all offer amazing artists throughout the year. Add venues in Hartford such as Xfinity Theater and Infinity Hall and the state is now a must play for acts of all sizes. We should thank all the promoters and small clubs for furnishing such a wide array of potent music to every corner of the area. Just remember to support live music whenever you can.
