THE STONE EYE – SINGLE PREMIERE – HIGH FREQUENCY HOG

The prolific Philadelphia rock band known as The Stone Eye is back a mere five months after the release of their last EP, delivering one of their heaviest songs to date, “High Frequency Hog”. Fusing metal, post-hardcore, and grunge influences, The Stone Eye continues to push boundaries while staying true to their signature sound. This latest release showcases a newfound heaviness, unveiling layers of sonic-complexity previously unexplored in the band’s discography. As trailblazers in genre fusion, The Stone Eye continues to captivate audiences with their ability to seamlessly weave diverse musical elements into their compositions.
Behind the scenes, the band’s evolution continues to unfold with the addition of bassist Jacob Mathis and guitarist Jonah Etsy to the lineup, joining forces with vocalist/guitarist Stephen Burdick and drummer Jeremiah Bertin. This expansion injects fresh perspectives and musical prowess into the creative process, further propelling The Stone Eye on their musical journey. With “High Frequency Hog”, The Stone Eye has unleashed a sonic titan, once again showing that there are no limits to what they’re musically capable of. The chalks are off, and this locomotive shows no signs of slowing down.
AMP is honored to be premiering The Stone Eye’s brazen new track to the world. In addition, Stephen Burdick, Vocalist/Guitarist gives AMP this exclusive interview discussing the new release.
AMP: Can you give our readers a brief history of the band?
STEPHEN: The Stone Eye formed back in 2014 whilst myself (Stephen) and Jeremiah were in High School. Just a couple kids playing music, with a strong love for stoner rock, grunge, and progressive rock. Ten years later and a bunch of albums later, the DNA of the band remains the same!
AMP: Your music transcends a variety of genres. How would you describe your sound?
STEPHEN: I honestly think I would classify the music as alternative rock because, as you said, it does tend to transcend genres. One song may be folk and the next one is metal. So yeah, to keep things simple, I just tell people its alternative rock.
AMP: “High Frequency Hog” is your new single we are premiering here today. Can you give us some of your insights into the song?
STEPHEN: So, “High Frequency Hog” is the first track we wrote with our new bassist, Jacob. It started out as most of our songs do. We had a single riff that was deemed “cool” by everyone, and we ended up building a song around it. The actual creative process was quite seamless as I don’t think the song really took more than a few hours to formulate. Stylistically, I really enjoy “High Frequency Hog” as it continues our “transcending genre” bit by implementing elements of post-hardcore, which I believe is a first for us.
AMP: How does the band’s dynamic work?
STEPHEN: Generally, the formula our band follows is I (Stephen) come up with an idea/plan, and then I present it to everyone and we discuss the pros and cons of said idea and go from there. That’s how it basically works for everything- business and creativity wise.
AMP: Can you give us a look into your creative process?
STEPHEN: The creative process essentially involves myself coming up with an idea, sharing it with the boys, and then we jam on the idea whilst everyone contributes their own flair to the idea/brings their own ideas to the plate. For example, in High Frequency Hog there are about six unique riffs in the song. I contributed four of the riffs, Jacob provided one, and Jeremiah provided one.
AMP: Who are some of the band’s inspirations?
STEPHEN: Everything and anything. From Katie Perry to John Fahey to Tool. There are no bounds.
AMP: What do you feel makes The Stone Eye unique?
STEPHEN: What makes The Stone Eye unique is what we have touched on previously- the ability to (shamelessly, I may add) blend a multitude of different ideas into one cohesive product. I mean, right now we are talking about the hypothetical scenario where we make an acoustic folk album with hip hop beats. Why not?
AMP: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
STEPHEN: If I could collaborate with anybody, it would probably be Dean Ween. He just seems like a very cool and down to earth dude who also has a similar mindset when it comes to the creative process. Why not throw a million ideas into the blender and see what happens?
AMP: What do you want your fans to take away from your music?
STEPHEN: Honestly, I just want people to enjoy it and come to their own conclusions/make their own meanings out of what we do. We put a lot of time (and pride) into our product, and the most satisfying part of it when it all is said and done is seeing people’s reactions. That’s what makes creating music cool.
AMP: What’s next for the Stone Eye?
STEPHEN: New music! We have a couple more tracks coming out this summer. We also are about to start up the creative process again, so expect new music throughout the remainder of the year. Beyond that, just the normal- gigs, gigs, and more gigs!
