AMP VOLUME 1

As this is my first entry into the world of blogging let me introduce myself. My name is Ralph B. I have lived in every borough of NYC, Long Island and currently reside in lovely Connecticut. I am a Fordham graduate and currently work in the graphic arts industry.  After college, I started to work on my great American novel (never finished) and began a freelance photography business. Most of my photo shoots were up and coming New York bands.  The Stilettos, Sun, Mink De Ville and Blondie were just a few.  A natural progression to start working in the downtown music scene came next.  Since I practically lived at CBGBs, Maxs, and other NY concert venues I started a promotion company.  My first concert featured The Dictators, Blondie, Mink de Ville and Demons.  Other shows featured The Shirts, The Miamis and a myriad of fresh and exciting new bands.  The shows were amazing but financial disasters.  My partner and I had no clue what we were doing but I cut my teeth and became hooked on the “scene”.  Next I created a management company.  I worked with several local artists and began building a very good reputation.  After a few years of limited success I merged my company with another management company.  The new enterprise became Rogue Management.  After working with some of the best local talent we signed several major and indie record deals.  Many of the bands gained some success here and aboard but as it is in the music business none really made any money.  Critics loved them but our record sales didn’t light up the board.  After a few more years of frustration, plus the fact that I got remarried, I left Rogue management.  My foray in the music scene ran approximately 40 years and I wouldn’t change a thing.  I traveled the world, met plenty of great bands and many a strange personality. It forged my psyche and at 64 I find myself younger than people half my age. All because of music.

Now to the present, I am jonesing for a music fix.  So I am combining my love of writing with my love of music with this blog.  I hope this blog awakens my fellow baby boomers to the new and adventurous bands that deserve a listen.  Too many times my generation gets stuck in the 70s, 80s, or 90’s slump where Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Black Sabbath and Kiss rule the roost.  New bands never crack their radio or playlists.  Baby boomers should understand that there is a wealth of talent in new and local bands.  That’s my goal.  Educate my generation.  Love it.  I can talk up a storm about a new found band that blows me away.  And that is what AMP is all about.  If I can convert one new reader to a young band that needs a growing following then I’ve done my job.  So till the next post when I start my format of critiquing  new bands. Hopefully you find the reviews informative.
