THE REVIVALISTS

The Revivalists

What do you get when you mix soul, R&B, funk and rock in a gumbo?  You get New Orleans’, The Revivalists.  This groove driven band newest release “Men Amongst Mountains” (Wind Up Records) not only highlights their amazing musicianship but also their ability to blend many genres of music. From David Shaw’s soulful vocals to Ed Williams’ pedal steel to Rob Ingraham’s jazzy sax we are transported to a special place. One you don’t want to leave. Add Zack Feinberg’s guitar, Andrew Campanelli’s percussion, George Gekas’ bass and Michael Giradot’s keys and you see why this septet is hot. Formed in 2007, The Revivalist two previous releases were Vital Signs and City of Sound.  Based in Louisiana, the band toured constantly and has amassed a considerable following.  “Men Amongst Mountains” is a true testament to their songwriting.  All fourteen songs work as a whole but each song a small microcosm of what the Revivalist are.  “Keep Going” and “Stand Up” rousing rockers, “Need You” and “Amber” jazzy funk.  And “Monster” soul driven R&B showcasing the bands strength.  But their signature song is “Wish I Knew You” an addictive song that highlights their smooth groove.  “Men Amongst Mountains” is worthy of a listen and another listen and another and countless more listens. “It’s that good“. I was honored to see the Revivalist live recently in Hartford.  I can’t stress enough how good this band is live.  The energy of each member was awesome.  Their musicianship flawless and their groove enveloped everyone in the audience.  I haven’t left a show feeling this good in quite a long time. A must see if ever in your neighborhood.
