ANTHRAX – BLACK LABEL SOCIETY – HATEBREED

It’s the end of the summer and what better way to spend it than at an Anthrax concert in Coney Island,
NY. We arrived early and were the first in line. Everyone waiting to enter had high expectations and was extremely excited. This was my first time at the Ford Amphitheater and I absolutely loved it. Great venue and wonderful staff

The night started with our hometown group, Bridgeport, Ct.’s own, Hatebreed. And what a way to start the night. The crowd went wild and the moshing began. Combining elements of hardcore and heavy metal, the band is often described as metalcore, hardcore punk, and beatdown hardcore. They have played a major role in the Connecticut hardcore scene.

Hatebreed released its debut album, Satisfaction is the Death of Desire in 1997, which ultimately gave the
band a cult following. They later signed with Universal Records and released Perseverance in 2002, which hit the Billboard 200. The members of Hatebreed include Jamey Jasta, Chris Beattie, Matt Byrne, Frank Novine, and Wayne Lozinak. Hatebreed was full of energy and really got the crowd going wild  They are such a fun band to see.

Next on the stage is my absolute favorite band Black Label Society. Black Label consists of Zakk Wylde on vocals and guitar, John JD DeServio on bass, Dario Lorina on guitar and Jeff Fabb on drums. BLS opened their set with “Funeral Bells” and as always they were phenomenal! The intensity went way up and the crowd was ecstatic.

Black Label Society is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1998 by
guitarist/singer Zakk Wylde. To date, the band has released eleven studio albums, two live albums, two
compilation albums, one EP, and three video albums.

The rest of their set list included:

  • Destroy & Conquer
  • Overlord
  • Heart of Darkness
  • A Love Unreal
  • You Made Me Want to Live
  • In This River
  • Trampled Down Below
  • Set You Free
  • Fire It Up
  • Suicide Messiah

As always BLS did not disappoint and had a fabulous night.

Next up was Anthrax for their 40th World Tour anniversary. Anthrax is an iconic heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. The group is considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene from the 1980s and is part of the “Big Four” of the genre, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.

The band has been through many personnel changes, and currently includes rhythm guitarist Scott Ian, drummer Charlie Benante (since1983), bassist Frank Bello (since 1984), vocalist Joey Belladonna (from1984–1992, 2005–2007 and since 2010) and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais (since 2013).

Anthrax came out playing “Among The Living”.followed by “Caught In A Mosh”  which is one of my favorite songs. Their set ended with “Indians”, another one my all time favorites by Anthrax.

The whole night was amazing. Packed with some of the best metal songs out there. I am so glad I did not miss this show as it was the best show I have been to this year. What a great way to end the summer!
