AUTOGRAPH LIVE AT MOHEGAN SUN’S WOLF DEN
After gracing thousands of fans while amid a national tour, Autograph hit Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den in Uncasville, Ct.to deliver an A+ performance. Fans from near and far waited with much anticipation as the Wolf Den opened its opened its doors to Autograph who where the first national act to debut the venue since Covid.
While Autograph is no stranger to Mohegan Sun, last weeks vivid performance was the first with this particular lineup. Added to the roster of elite musicians including original founder, bassist, Randy Rand, frontman, Simon Daniels, drummer Marc Weiland is Ct’s own, Jimi Bell on lead guitar. Jimi will be rounding on a two year anniversary with his bandmates and judging by last night’s performance, you would think they have been performing on stage for years…they are that TIGHT!
Fans of Autograph could still be heard cheering on and fist pumping even into the wee hours of the morning. The performance at the Wolf Den was nothing short of sizzling and everything sexy and gritty that rock has to offer. Adding to the build up of the evening was the Wolf Den’s first opening to full capacity and two prior cancelled shows. For the bystanders that looked at the stage from afar, their smiles and enthusiasm could be spotted miles away. Especially when the band played a few of their classic hits like the opener, “Deep End”, “Blonds In Black cars”, “Loud and Clear” and the uber iconic, “Turn Up The Radio”.
Every minute was a “moment” with the audience. Simon’s ability to engage the crowd would leave even the most notable behaviorists bewildered. His on-stage presence is nothing short of magnetic with each song drawing the audience closer and closer into the rock and roll vortex. Burning up stage left is Autograph‘s secret weapon, Mr. Randy Rand. He delivered a thunderous performance and plays right in the “pocket” of Marc Weiland’s solid drumming. Together they are steadily lock key in step and give Autograph their recognizable foundation tone. Jimi Bell’s fans were out in force. He delivered such a blazing performance that even the legendary Johnny Winter would be smiling from the heavens. An approximately six minute guitar solo showcased Bell’s intense and aggressive precision picking with lightening speed agility.
The 90 minute adrenaline fueled night captured many classics but also entwined a few edgier and heavier songs. There was something for everyone. Particularly notable were the melodic vocals, tight harmonies and catchy hooks that make Autograph still arena relevant. As always, the Wolf Den’s house Soundman Engineer, Curt Wade, was in full command and leveraged his experience to ensure the sound was stellar! There were so many accomplished musicians in the audience last week that you could have had another Liveaid. Such great energy from stage to floor.
Our music industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus with live performance revenue the largest casualty. To be at this point in time, where fans can now see their beloved bands and support the Mohegan Indian Tribe economy…is priceless. They never disappoint and the place is truly a “destination” venue.
