BEGONIA

Begonia (AKA- Alexa Dirks) can sing. I mean really really sing. The Winnipeg Canadian’s voice is amazingly soulful. Her new single “The Light” , co-produced by Begonia and Matt Schellenberg (Royal Canoe), Matt Peters (Royal Canoe) and Marcus Paquin (The National), is a prime example of her strong sexy intonations. Her vocals drives deep sultry palpitations throughout one’s psyche. Her inflections are superb and Begonia oozes soul out of every note.

“The Light” starts with Begonia‘s passionate voice singing over a building sync beat and then escalating as the music crescendos. Her voice beautifully snakes as she sings about the realization of a love lost she can’t seem to let go. At one point Begonia laments: “Nobody’s made me feel this way And now I’ll never be the same Hang up the phone and scream your name Again and again But I like the pain” . Every word brings you closer to feeling her anguish. Begonia captures you and makes you experience the very essence of her heartbreak. “The Light” is a remarkable piece of music.

Begonia‘s 2017 debut E.P., Lady In Mind, is an early indicator of her creative direction. Songs like “Juniper” , which reached #1 on the CBC2 music charts, and “Hot Dog Stand” showcased her powerfully sensual voice. Her lyrics are a perfect fit for the turmoil and desire she sings about. Begonia is currently working on her first full length album, Fear. If “The Light” is a barometer we are in for a treat. It’s just a matter of time before Begonia is a household name.
