DESERT of TALKING SHADOWS – EMPTY HEARTS – SINGLE REVIEW
Orange County upstarts Desert of Talking Shadows have just released a new single entitled “Empty Hearts”. The band emits a massive wall of sound that encompasses a multitude of genres. All through their vibrant songs you hear hints of hard rock, nu-grunge and progressive psychedelia. The band is composed of Mikey Qubti (Vocals/Guitar), Garrett Mahler (Guitar), Jack Thomas (Bass) and Detrick Forster (Drums).
The band formed in 2018 and immediately made a huge splash. Desert‘s first single was “Crucify” which garnished them major critical acclaim. “Crucify” is a sonic tornado with driving guitars and atomic vocals. In addition, the backbeat carries a propulsive punch. The song is definitely an audacious banger. Several singles followed. “End Of The Lie” and “Dead Fruit” harbor an extraordinary grunge ambiance. Qubti’s vocals are fearless and full of emotive stamina. At this point, Desert of Talking Shadows is firing on all cylinders.
All the while, Desert of Talking Shadows were building their fanbase by playing to sold out crowds. The band opened for such notable acts such as Radley, The Graham Bonnet Band (Michael Schenker Group/Rainbow) and AMP favorites, Them Evils. Plus, they headlined a show at the world famous Troubadour as well as the 2020 NAMM convection. The band has been featured in Classic Rock Magazine and their music hit the airwaves on KLOS and Planet Rock Radio.
2021 ushered in their debut album, Foreshadowing. The release established DTS as a major player in the Orange County arena. The record features several outstanding tracks. “Thunder” is a rapacious orgy of aural ecstasy. “Waiting To Die” is a treasure of grungy guitars and infectious vocals. The song showcases a surge of hard hitting accents. “Dead Fruit” embodies a flourish of psychedelic nuances. Qubti’s vocals are gutsy with a tidal wave of exuberant strength. “Cold Hard Floor” embraces a softer feel and Qubti’s voice is fiery with a lush tone. Foreshadowing is plainly incendiary.
Desert of Talking Shadows‘ new song is “Empty Hearts”. The track is slightly different from their previous material. It has more hallucinogenic assaults. The impressive chord changes are superb. The band’s musicianship is impeccable. Qubti’s vocals are up front and memorable. The song has layers of tension filled guitar riffs while Thomas’ bass is divine. Forster’s percussions are ruthlessly voracious with spacey fills. “Empty Hearts” is a firestorm of delectable musical candy.
Desert of Talking Shadows have just begun their quest to capture the imaginations of music fans around the world. It’s just a matter of time before they hit your playlist with their forceful and brazen music.

These guys are great. Qubti’s vocals have a bit of a Chris Cornell feel.
Totally agree. Music is killer.
