DirT – LIVE AT THE CELLAR AND BAND INTERVIEW
DirT is a dynamic hard rock/metal band based in Ct. Their music is high energy and full of intense tenaciousness. DirtT‘s live shows are extremely memorable and heartfelt. They create a tsunami of sonic fury. Recently we caught the group headlining Pete Mould’s birthday bash held at his venue, The Cellar On Treadwell. The show was sold out and the crowd anxious for DirT‘s infectious rhythms.
DirT is comprised of five excellent musicians. Lead singer Chalice Blood is a consummate front man with an amazing vocal range. His voice is ruthless with cinematic textures. Bassist Fred Bemis lays down a monstrous kaleidoscope of voltage. Guitarists Ralph Guzzi nd Scott Kadish deliver layers of intricate riffs and urgent licks. Paul Bourdeau on percussions creates a massive aura of pummelling depth. In plain words, DirT cranks with a savage force.
This night at The Cellar, DirT put on another tremendous performance. The room was theirs. From the first note of “Vultures” the audience were grooving to the band’s impetuous pulse. Every song they played was imposing. “Empire Of Sand” flowed into “Black Dawn” and the throng was loving it. The band’s on-stage vitality was intoxicating. By the time DirT got to “My Own Curse” and “Gasoline Soul” everyone was totally mesmerized. They closed out with a muscular version of “Waste The Wine”. The entire evening was a wild ride of voracious music.
DirT was kind enough to give AMP this captivating interview.
AMP: Can you give AMP a brief history of the band?
DirT: DIrT is a high-energy, hard rock/metal band from CT. The band has garnered a dedicated core of supporters by performing heartfelt and overwhelmingly energetic concerts and pouring the embodiment of the underdog into their songs. Everything they put into their records and concerts is sincere. That is something hard to find today. Their fans understand this and join them to create what many call ‘The Family’.
AMP: How would you describe your music?
DirT: High energy/Hard Rock/Metal
AMP: Your EP Gasoline Soul was recently released. Do you feel it’s an evolution in terms of musical direction from your previous material?
DirT: Yes. Gasoline Soul introduces Scott Kadish to the lineup. The band has gone further with two guitar orchestrations. We also widened our scope of creation in our song writing.
AMP: Sticking to the same theme, what are some of the messages you want your fans to take away from your music?
DirT: DIrT wants to welcome ALL. Our message is an inclusive one. We are surrounded by a darkness of hate and lies, but the truth is the light. We put our hearts and souls in what we do, and our supporters bring it to life. Together, we are the living, breathing embodiment, the strength of truth and love.
AMP: How does your creative process work?
DirT: The music and lyrics are written and then assessed. Once a song shows some promise, a demo is made. We then make changes and get the song finished. Finally, we decided if it is a good enough track to record and release. As a point of reference, we have 25 songs either released or in production to be released. We have over 130 songs, either pre-demo or demoed, that we have decided not to record and release. We are VERY selective.
AMP: Europe and Asia have always embraced metal. Do you feel the American metal scene is strong?
DirT: Music has become less personal with the introduction of high-level production technology paired with the ability to access anything anytime with a cell phone. We feel that there is a lot of great talent out there, it is just harder to find. The last real cultural musical movement happened before the insurgents of technology. The Metal World needs a new movement. There is plenty of talent, but it’s lost in the whirlwind of information available at the swipe of a finger. We say, slow down and listen… you will be inspired.
AMP: Members of the band reside in different areas of the US. How difficult is it to create new music and rehearse?
Dirt: We can’t do as many concerts as we would like to but it builds anticipation so when we do play, it’s truly special. As far as writing, the distance doesn’t hinder us at all. Our brotherhood is withstanding distance, that should say it all.
AMP: What’s your favorite song to play live?
DirT: For me ( Ralph Guzzi), Waste the Wine, but we have many new songs for the 2023 touring schedule, so that may change.
AMP: Name a band that you felt was great but never broke through?
Dirt: We think there are so many bands that don’t get the credit they deserve that it would be unfair to name just one. Keep the faith and keep the music playing. Every individual chooses what band is the soundtrack to their lives.
AMP: What’s in store for DirT in 2023?
DirT: We will continue to write, record, and perform. Music is our blood, heart, and soul. Music is who we are. DIrT is who we are. We will be announcing new releases of music and videos as well as concert dates. Stay tuned.
