DMITRY WILD – ROCK-n-ROLL is MY BUSINESS – SINGLE REVIEW
By Ralph Beauchamp
Dmitry Wild is a modern man for the ages. He’s a poet, writer, actor, artist but foremost a unique musical talent. He has recently released a two track single with the A-side being the demonic, “Rock-n-Roll is My Business”. The B-side is another daring track entitled “Son of a Gun”. Both songs deliver cinematic yet brazen vocals coupled with groove laden arrangements. Wild‘s voice carries a singular texture that demands scrutiny.
“Rock-n-Roll is My Business” is full of addictive riffs and inventive orchestration. The mix of genres is totally fantastic. Wild invests diverse elements in his music such as spaghetti western guitar riffs with ska horns and a punk verve. His songwriting is fearless. He truly concocts huge pieces of musical art that transcends the usual. Every note is genuinely extraordinary. His flair is way beyond the accepted societal norms. Wild is fearless in creating his dynamic compositions. A true renaissance man.
The premise behind “Rock-n-Roll is My Business” is the age old story of diabolical tit for tat. Sign on the dotted line and all of a sudden you are famous. The video that accompanies the track is also memorable and full of surprises.
Wild impersonates the hardest working figure behind the music business in a kind of “A day in the life of…” as Diablo rides to work in a black mustang, signing contracts, playing vintage guitar and dancing around with the cast. The Rockstar is played by Jesse D. Leach (Killswitch Engage) and The Father is played by Byron Frayne, who also recorded the B-side ‘Son of a Gun’. The video also features burlesque dancer and upcoming singer Tryst La Noir and Purple Goddess, who was the top pole dancer appearing on tour with Snoop Dog.
‘Rock-n-Roll Is My Business’ was inspired by an experience Dmitry Wild had at a business convention. When asked “What is your business?”, he understood he was at odds with the other business people and specialists in attendance, ultimately answering “Rock-n-Roll Is My Business“. Produced by Dmitry Wild, ‘Rock-n-Roll is My Business’ was mixed and mastered by Will Hensley (Coldplay, Travis, Dream Theater, Ben Folds, Shakira, My Morning Jacket, The Wombats), the title track being recorded by Andy Cass at Sleeper Cave Records in Western Mass, MA.
The B-side track is just as impressive. “Son of a Gun” is both fun and vibrant. It continues the vigor and panache of “Rock-n-Roll is My Business”. The horns blare with pognant propulsion. The backbeat is masterful while Wild‘s voice is fervent with an enormously tension-filled cadence.
If you enjoy artists such as The Cramps, Iggy Pop, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or David Bowie, Dmitry Wild is your cup of tea.
