FRANK VIELE – ELLE SERA – HATFIELD – LIVE
AMP just featured Frank Viele a short week ago reviewing his new EP entitled Time Is A Thief. We described the release as having “vibrant melodies and textured tones“. Well, Frank assembled a hand picked all star cast of Ct. singer/songwriters for his highly anticipated record release party at 10Selden in Woodbridge on Dec. 4th. Opening for Viele were the extremely gifted Elle Sera and Mike Hatfield. Both artists played lush sets full of vibrant intensity and emotional resonance.
Up first was Mike Hatfield. Mike is a talented songwriter and a extremely stirring vocalist. His songs are full of unbridled passion and addictive choruses. Hatfield’s vocal delivery abounds with cinematic vitality. He throws his entire soul into his music which blends dark folk, soul and edgy rock. His songs are very personal and each tells a compelling story. Some come from his dreams while others from intimate experiences. His lyrics carry meaningful modern themes ranging from self doubt to redemption.
On stage, Hatfield is amazingly charismatic. The audience totally enjoyed the intros to his songs. “Rabbit Holes”, “Copin Ways” and “The Water” were just some of the songs that the audience truly savored. Hatfield also performs with a full band which he explained sometimes changes the ambiance of his compositions. Hatfield in either version is an artist to watch.
Next to the stage was Elle Sera who is another extraordinary brilliant artist. Like Hatfield, Sera captured the room with her enticing vocals and commanding tunes. Her voice carried a myriad of lofty textures and her spirited personality was a huge hit. Her sound has a folky pop feel yet her songs ferry a sense of riotous rawness. Sera easily drew the crowd in with her gutsy music and laid back demeanor. She performed some of her older material such as “You”, “Beautiful Girl” and “Running From The Law”. She also previewed the tittle track from her upcoming EP, Little Fire. Elle Sera will be a major force in the modern music scene.
What can we say about Frank Viele that we haven’t said before. The man is a voracious songwriter and an amazing performer. In addition, Frank‘s voice is embedded with that perfect bluesy timbre that conveys fervor in every note. !0Selden was full of anticipation and Frank‘s performance this evening was spectacular. He had a fearless disposition and his songs discharged a blast of pure intoxication. Frank knew this was his hometown crowd and he was on fire.
Billed as his EP release party, Viele left no stoned unturned playing fan favorites like “Someday I’m Going To Make You Mine”, “Pomegranate”, and the insanely electrifying “Broken Love Song”. The real highlights of the night were his four new songs off Time Is A Thief. His live versions of “Tears Drag You Down”, “The River” and “Time Is A Thief” were profoundly intensified. Viele lunged deep into his being to produce magnificent renditions. The real standout of the evening was “Love You Enough (The Vultures)” which was dynamically vivid and impassioned.
On a whole, the entire show was a colossal success with each artist proving to be musically magnetic.
