FUNHOUSE

Funhouse  loves to invade the shore.

Funhouse is a five piece cover band based in central Connecticut who really enjoys playing at Donahue’s Madison Beach Grille on the shoreline. The setting is perfect. The club and restaurant is close to Hammonasset Beach State Park and the drinks and food are excellent.

Funhouse consists of Angela T. Haggerty (Lead Vocals), Tim Mead (Bass/Vocals), Shawn “Chewy” Chua (Guitar/Vocals), Chris Skeens (Drums/Vocals) and Ralph Carrano (Keyboards/Vocals). They are an awesome band that plays a very diverse selection of upbeat tunes. Their musicianship is extraordinary with “Chewy” being one of the best guitarists in the state.

Whenever Funhouse plays Donahue’s the crowd is sizable and totally enjoys the music. They opened their first set with “Hurts So Good” by John Mellencamp and immediately the audience was into it. Next they played Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” and then Tim Mead belted out Sublime’s “What I Got”. The crowd began to dance and the band was starting to feel the love.

By the time Funhouse broke into “Fight For Your Right To Party” by the Beastie Boys, Georgia Satellites’ “Hands To Yourself” sung by Chris Skeens and “Hook” by Blues Traveler half of Donahue’s was either on the dance floor or standing and swaying to the music.

Funhouse showed how creative and diverse they are with their song selection in the latter part of their set. Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music” rolls into a “I Will Survive/Stairway To Heaven” medley. Quite a varied grouping. The band followed with “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd and Journey’s “Any Way You Want It”.  Again an interesting coupling but Funhouse makes it work.

The band closed out their first set with Tom Petty’s “American Girl” and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” to a strong appreciative response from the Funhouse fans. The band gave their all and the audience really enjoyed the entire 20 song show.

Even though I didn’t stay for the shorter second set I know Funhouse covered Bon Jovi, another Sublime song, Duran Duran and AC/DC among other top flight artists.

The one thing you take away from a night with Funhouse is a festive time. You can see from their opening note to their last chord that they enjoy the moment. They love the music and their fans feel their positive energy. Everytime I have had the pleasure of seeing the band I walk out with a smile and a memorable time.

For a boisterous and merry good time check them out. I promise you’ll have fun with Funhouse.
