GOVERNORS BALL MUSIC FESTIVAL – JUNE 9TH – 11TH 2023

The 2023 Governors Ball Music Festival is being held on June 9th – 11th at their new location located at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, N.Y. This years headliners are Lizzo (Friday), Odesza (Saturday) and Kendrick Lamar (Sunday). Gov Ball was first held in 2011 created by original founders Jordan Wolowitz, Tom Russell and Yoni Reisman. This is the same group (Founders Entertainment) behind the Sound On Sound Music festival which held its inaugural year in 2022 in Bridgeport, Ct. Sound On Sound returns this year (Sept. 30th-Oct. !st) with an incredible lineup.

Governors Ball is an amazing way to experience some of your favorite artists in a beautiful setting with fans of all genres of music. That is a great aspect of this festival. It brings together devotees of so many musical styles such as hip-hop, rock, indie, EDM, pop and more. There is an insane abundance of really cool bands and major artists in this years edition. Each night is stacked with bold and brazen talent. Plus, Flushing Meadows Park is a marvelous location immersed in NYC history. It housed a World’s Fair and it was the location of my first Led Zeppelin concert.

Besides the headliners, the rosters every evening kills. Friday has Haim, Diplo, Lil Uzi Vert and a slew of fantastic acts. Saturday showcases Lil Baby, Lauv, Oliver tree, Finneas, Snail Mail amongst others. Sunday features Lil Nas X, Sofi Tucker, Girl In Red, Giveon and another group of dynamic artists. Hip-hop, rock, indie, EDM are all meshed together encompassing three nights of ambitious music. If you are looking for a fun and exciting weekend in NYC, then Governors Ball is the perfect event for you.

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind if you are planning to attend:

The festival is held over three days and the grounds are large, so you will need comfortable clothing and shoes and be prepared to walk a lot. Bring plenty of sunscreen.
The weather can be unpredictable. Be sure to check to forecast before you go and pack accordingly.
The festival can be crowded, so be prepared for long lines and crowds.

This year, the Gov Ball is going to be off the hook. The headliners are extraordinary and the entire lineup is top notch. Governors Ball is a great way to see some of your favorite artists perform live beneath a spectacular backdrop. This will be a wild weekend in NYC. Worth every penny.
