KENNYHOOPLA – DROPS A NEW EP – CONDITIONS OF AN ORPHAN//

By Ralph Beauchamp

Hip hip hooray, KennyHoopla is back. He will be dropping a new EP entitled conditions of an orphan// this Friday, September 19th via The Orchard. The lead single, “orphan//” is already available on all the streaming services. The single features production and drumming from Paramore’s Zac Farro. conditions of an orphan// is a rebirth for KennyHoopla. This exciting release on The Orchard finds KennyHoopla exploring new directions. He is beginning to move in a more groove-oriented indie rock vein with suave New Wave incarnations. The EP also comes with production assistance from Mike Elizondo during condition of an orphan//‘s creative process.

This EP offers some relief for the Cleveland based KennyHoopla. With the lose of his mother three years ago, he felt like the orphan in his title. Speaking of his grief and the impetus behind “orphan//” KennyHoopla states:

“I felt the strongest about the song from the start. It’s about wanting to pick someone up and help them—but there’s no single way to grieve. There’s no exact process for it, and sometimes the puzzle pieces just don’t fit. It has made me feel very depressed, but I have to somehow power through and be ready to fight again, even when your fucking arms are broken.”

And “orphan//” is a true testament to KennyHoopla“s perseverance. The song bristles with unrestrained beauty. His vocals are effervescent and spirited. Every note on “orphan//” carries a charge. The upbeat cadence leaves the listener feeling alive with an unadulterated excitement. The track’s driving rhythms are totally additive and singular. KennyHoopla seems have used “orphan//” as a means to mitigate some of his heartache via music. The pain remains but the healing has begun.

Indeed, conditions of an orphan// stands as a soul-searching survey of where KennyHoopla’s been—as well as where he’s looking to go next, pointing the way towards his full-length debut and the continued maturation of his artistic perspective. “I’ve spent the last three years of my life reflecting on my career in the industry,” he says. “I’ve previously restrained myself from talking about deeper issues in my life—trying to compartmentalize my experiences. It’s a constant tug of war between my personal and artistic lives.” And conditions of an orphan// more than proves that it’s a battle worth fighting.
