LIVESAY – WALK AWAY – SINGLE REVIEW & ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Livesay is a highly successful rock ensemble based in the New England area. Throughout its existence, the band has featured a few diverse lineups with Gregg Livesay being the constant. The current one is composed of Gregg Livesay (Guitar), Mike Gill (Lead Vocals), Rich Andrews (Bass/Vocals), Mark Zito (Keyboards) and Tim Huntington (Drums). Each member of this grouping is a dynamic musician whose combined talents forge an audacious force of sonic intensity. Livesy just released their newest single entitled “Walk Away” off their forthcoming four song E.P.
Livesay‘s sound is not easy to categorize. They combine many different styles of music in order to create something original and fresh. They take a hard rock stance and add melodic edges and vibrant arrangements. The vocals are extremely brazen yet still galvantly sublime. In addition, the harmonies are cinematic and memorable. Livesay’s musical diversity takes the group into moments of prog heaven with monstrous musicianship, bold guitar solos and catchy hooks. In other words, Livesay is a symphonic beast full of intricate guitar riffs, skyscraper grooves and breathtaking vocals.
Livesay have released several albums. Livesay, released in 1996, was their first. The latest is Chronicles which dropped in 2018 and spawned the hit, “International Man”. Plus, Chronicles featured three different vocalists and an amazing cachet of musicians. The band has also shared the stage with such illustrious artists as Ronnie James Dio, Dokken and Fates Warning. Their live shows are monstrous. On stage, each member casts a spell of aural artistry that transports the audience to exotic ports of beauty..
Livesay‘s newest track is the intense “Walk Away” featuring Mike Gill (Beyond Purple) on vocals. Gregg Livesay wrote the music and Mike Gill penned the lyrics. The song is full of dark soundscapes and imposing textures. Gregg Livesay’s guitar is singular in tone. Also, his solo has a deeply profound feel..The backbeat of Andrews and Huntington is fiercely muscular. Mark Zito’s keyboard fills the air with palettes of shimmering tension. Additionally, Mike Gill’s vocals are stupendous. His lush inflections are addictively fiery. Every note he sings feels real. The composition is a blazing landslide of atomic fervor.
Also, “Walk Away” has a more serious design. Speaking of the song, Mike Gill states:
“The song deals with mental health issues and the contemplation of suicide. It’s a real problem, especially after the isolation of Covid, and I feel it is an important concern“.
Gregg Livesay adds:
“It’s theme is primarily about the people who have reached their breaking point and think about harming themselves as a solution. We want to remind everyone there is always help. There’s always a better way out.“.
