LOZ CAMPBELL – SINGLE REVIEW & ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
UK based rock artist Loz Campbell just released her dynamic new single entitled, “What Are You Doing It For?”. Loz is a hard hitting guitar slinger with an angelic yet fierce voice. Bluesy with hints of classic rock and spicy guitar licks, Campbell continues to grow stronger with each endeavor. She dropped an album, Green Eyes, in 2017 and a well reviewed EP, Back Biting the Bullet, in 2019.
Loz Campbell is known for travelling around the world and shocking crowds with her “growling” guitar. Her sound hurdles many genres. Campbell‘s songs straddle blues, rock, pop and punk with an intense yet melodic groove. Her voice combines the exotic tones of Shirley Manson of Garbage with the dramatic snarl of Joan Jett.
“What Are You Doing It For?” is a glowing banger with a tenacious arrangement and impressive guitar riffs. With hints of old school rock and roll, the song pushes boundaries. Images of The Heartbreakers surface. Her guitar wails and the chorus is full of subtle nuances. Loz‘s voice is lush yet gnarly and gutsy. “What Are You Doing It For?” exhibits different textures with its shimmering bass line and steadfast percussions. Yet the song stays true to its nature with its punchy sound. It’s an exuberant piece of rock.
Speaking about the song, Loz comments: “What Are You Doing It For?” is an old school plug in and play approach to a new wave of classic rock sound. Throughout the song I ask what are you doing it for? Is it for the fame/money. Written about experiences of different people we have met in the industry”.
The official video for the song was filmed by Fly Girl Films and was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Tom Gittins (Monochrome Productions). In addition, Loz Campbell has joined forces with Earache Records and is featured on the New Wave Of Rock N Roll compilation album.
On the strength of her new single, Campbell has booked an extensive UK tour including dates in both the Crazy Cowboy (Reading) and Yorkshire Truck (Sheffield) Festivals. Hopefully she can find her way across the pond and grace us with some US shows. It would definitely be a treat.
