LUKE PETRUZZI – PHOTOGRAPHS/CORNERED – SINGLES REVIEW

Luke Petruzzi is truly an artist in many senses. His music is like a painting from Rembrandt or Van Gogh. His tracks are bold and full of vibrant colors and textures. He melds soulful vocals with pocketed beats inspired by trap, UK garage and bass music. Influenced by such diverse talents as James Blake, Four Tet and Ivy Lab, Petruzzi‘s new singles are aural jewelry embellished with glowing gems.

Petruzzi produces out of his San francisco, Ca-based studio surrounded by synthesizers and drum machines that fuel his daily his daily meditation of creating new sounds and ideas. His single “Cornered” was released last November. Petruzzi‘s vocals are smooth and exotic. His impassioned beats are sultry and erotic. The slow groove is truly hypnotic delivering lush structures. The song is shimmering with morphing touches of brilliance.

His new single is “Photographs”. It’s sonically spellbinding. The musical structures are silky with an impressive keenness. The cadence is totally intoxicating. Petruzzi‘s vocals are once again brazen. His voice conveys a cinematic soundscape that baptises the listener with sublime palettes of elation. There is a richness to the track. The tune is both spacey and edgy while distributing a spicy flavor. The choral-like harmonies add another stellar quality. Speaking about the song, Petruzzi declares:

“I felt the inspiration for ‘Photographs’ while going through old pictures on my phone late one
night, I saw images of friends, festivals, beautiful memories, but stopped scrolling
when I came across a photo of an ex-girlfriend and I together on a date that I remember fondly.
In the photo, I can see something in my eyes that portrays a closedness I wasn’t yet consciously
aware of at that time. I was somehow guarded – not guarded in communication or emotionally –
but on some intuitive level where I knew we were in love but the relationship itself wouldn’t last.
It felt poignant and surprising to see this in an image of myself from that point in time.”
