MARBLE MAMMOTH

Our friends from Sweden, Marble Mammoth, have returned with a terrific new single, “Higher Than the Sun” (Klorofyll Records). The Stockholm quartet comprised of Tobias (Vocals/Guitar), Marcus (Drums), Emil (Bass) and Andy (Organ/Percussion) released several amazing singles reviewed by AMP last year. “Lonely”, “The Lights Pt 1 and 2” were interesting exercises in psychedelic dreamy pop.

Earlier in 2020, the band also released the esoteric single “Have the Sun Lick Your Mind”. Here, Marble Mammoth blends elements of many genres to forge an enlightened awareness. The band balances pieces of classic rock and indie with their signature hallucinatory sound to build a new hybrid. That’s the beauty of Marble Mammoth. They leave no stone unturned. They continuously try to experiment and expand their consciousness.

“Higher Than the Sun” continues the excellent songwriting and atmospheric typhoon that embodies Marble Mammoth‘s music. The accentuated downbeat and dynamic swirling rhythms give the tune an ethereal and abstract feel. Tobias’ fuzzed guitar and otherworldly vocals enclose us in an unique ambiance while Emil’s bass lays down a pounding layer of sound. Andy’s organ filters throughout enhancing the psychedelic textures. Marcus’ drums are superbly highlighted and coalesces the entire song.

“Higher Than the Sun” exemplifies Marble Mammoth‘s growth and maturity as it concerns their songwriting capabilities. The song is tighter and more polished. The production is definitely stronger and the song is quite fluid. “Higher Than the Sun” proves to the world that Marble Mammoth is here to stay. I am looking forward to hearing their next project.

The video for “Higher Than the Sun” was directed and shot by Gustav Öhman Spjuth. It depicts a young man played by Linus Nordström in a drug infused panic underscored by Marble Mammoth’s music. The stirring video captures the essence of the tune completely. It creates a agitative kaleidoscope of both madness and redemption.
