MELTT/MAEKO – LIVE @ THE LILYPAD – CAMBRIDGE, MA.

By Bailey Grullon

Meltt is a Canadian indie rock ensemble from Vancouver that AMP interviewed a short three weeks ago. By luck, their recent North American tour brought them to Cambridge, Ma. with Maeko for direct support. Meltt picked the perfect venue in the LIlypad. Their music is full of organic textures and the Lilypad’s intimate space is the ideal location to capture their aural explosions of sound. Meltt is composed of Chris Smith (Lead Vocals/ Guitar/Bass/Keys), Jamie Turner ( Drums/Percussions), James Porter (Guitar/Bass/Keys/Vocals) and Ian Winkler (Keys/Bass/Guitar).

Boston artist, Maeko opened the night with songs that blended a dreamy atmosphere with introspective lyricism. His subtle yet powerful vocals backed by an equally talented guitarist, bassist and drummer evoked a wonderful sense of nostalgia and contemplation. Maeko introduced one of his newest singles “Nowstalgia” solidifying the Lilypad in the local indie scene.

Meltt‘s performance was a sonic journey that seamlessly brewed ethereal melodies with raw energy. The band’s chemistry on stage was palpable, creating an immersive visual and auditory experience for the audience. Each member showcased virtuosity, especially in the dynamic interplay between guitars and the pulsating rhythm section. The setlist, a mix of their well-known hits and experimental tracks, kept the crowd engaged throughout. Meltt‘s ability to create such a mind bending and trippy experience through their music left a lasting impression, making this show a captivating and memorable sensual adventure.

Meltt just released a new album entitled Eternal Embers via Nettwerk. The night was highlighted from such majestic tracks such as “Into The Night”, “Do You Ever Wonder?”, “The Absent Sea” and “Only in Your Eyes”. Every song was a lush experiment in audacious intricacy.
