MOTIONLESS in WHITE – BLACK VEIL BRIDES
Wednesday night the Trinity of Terror Tour, Ice Nine Kills, Motionless in White and Black Veil Brides , rolled into the Oakdale Theatre for an outstanding night of rock and they brought along Lilith Czar to get the show started. The three headliners all played about an hour each and despite the order of performance it was clear the crowd was there for Motionless in White above all.
Lilith Czar, a former contestant on the Voice, led off the evening with a quick 6 song set highlighted by a Stevie Nicks cover of “Edge of Seventeen “ and her hit “Anarchy”.
Black Veil Brides took to the stage next for a thundering set starting with “ Faithless” and “ Coffin” followed by current hit “Crimson Skies”. The crowd was buzzing at this point as the band went into “Shadows Die”, “Wake Up”, and “Scarlet Cross”. “Knives and Pens”, “ The Legacy”,”Fallen Angel” and “ In the End” closed out the set leaving the audience amped and up for more music. Black Veil Brides consists of Andy Biersack (Vocals), Jinxx (Rhythm Guitar), Jake Pitts (Lead Guitar), Lonny Eagleton (Bass) and Christian “CC” Coma (Drums).
Motionless in White next took the stage and the crowd was ready to go. Lead singer Chris “Motionless” Cerulli is an imposing figure on stage and quite the showman. This was my first time seeing the band live and I was impressed. Leading off with “Disguise”, the energy never stopped. “ Reincarnate”, “Necessary Evil” and “Voices” were followed by “Brand New Numb”, “Thoughts and Prayers “ and “Rats”
The band has quite the stage theatrics incorporating characters into the songs as the set goes on. “ Cyberhex”, “Another Life”, led into “Somebody Told Me”, a Killers cover and the set closed with “Eternally Yours”. Motionless in White also includes Ryan Sitkowski (Lead Guitar), Rocky “Horror” Olson (Rhythm Guitar), Vinny Mauro (Drums) and Justin Morrow (Bass), who was missing tonight as he was home awaiting the birth of his baby.
Ice Nine Kills was up next to close the show, and to my surprise a lot of people left before they got started. I’m not complaining as the pit became less crowded and my avoidance of crowd surfers on top of my head became easier. Ice Nine Kills added to the theatrics of Motionless in White by having some sense of a play in almost every song within the horror theme of their songs. “Welcome to Horrorwood”,” Wurst Vacation”, and “Hip to Be Scared” started off the set. Between the music and the acting you tell lead singer Spencer Charnas was having a good time and the audience was grooving along with him. “
Stabbing in the Dark”, “Rainy Day”, “IT Is the End” and “Communication of the Cursed” followed. Dan Sugarman (Lead Guitar) spent the evening right in front of me and was impressive musically and vocally. I also liked how the video board behind the band was like a theatre marquee announcing the next feature playing. “ Take Your Pick” and “Ex-Mortis” preceded “ The Shower Scene” where the audience saw a pretty good re-enactment of the shower scene in Psycho. “Funeral Derangements” and “The American Nightmare” closed the show leaving the fans that stayed with great music ringing in their ears. Ice Nine Kills also includes Rickey Armellino (Rhythm Guitar), Joe Occhiuti (Bass) and Patrick Gialante (Drums).
Chris Motionless mentioned having a bangover the next day from head banging all night. I wonder how many people took the day off Thursday.
On a side note I took along a daughter of a coworker to this show (her mom could not deal with this genre of music). I was impressed by 3 things with her. 1 She knew every word to every song of all 3 headliners and sang along all night 2. She help her arm up videoing for hours (I was tired just standing there) and 3. I think she may have the greatest phone battery in the history of phone batteries. Most impressed by number 1. Glad to see the youth are keeping rock alive.
