NOAH KAHAN – THE STICK SEASON TOUR LIVE @ THE AMP

Noah Kahan – the Stick Season Tour- Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater – 09/05/2023
After the long Labor day weekend, it was nice to end the day with a banger of a concert that Noah Kahan delivered at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater on Tuesday night. My father (Ralph) surprised me on Monday evening with a press ticket to see the show and I couldn’t have been more ecstatic. I’m a huge fan. The only stipulation was I had to write a review. My dad has always wanted me and my sister, Jessica, to be more involved in his website. He told us we could offer a new young perspective. I went to bed on Monday dreaming about the electric show ahead.
Noah started the show with “Northern Attitude”, he being a fellow New Englander from Strafford, Vermont. The crowd roared in excitement as they sang along with their northeastern pride. After the song, Noah had the stadium laughing after introducing himself as, “Jewish Capaldi” and “Folk Malone”. He even made small comments about Connecticut by bringing up the Merritt Parkway.
Also, Noah collaborated with Two Roads Brewery to create a Northern Attitude inspired IPA. Many fans were flashing their support with merch they bought at the concert on top of the creative IPA in their hands. Part of the proceeds made by the beer ended up going to a foundation supporting easily accessible mental health outreach and support.
Throughout the concert, Kahan brought up his love for supporting mental health and trying to educate his audience on the importance of asking for help. He stated how he wants to destigmatize the conversations around mental health and how he learned this through being, “lucky enough to go to therapy and growing up with my supportive parents”. These little snippets looking into his life made me as a listener start crying and appreciate some of his songs like “Call Her Mom” and “Growing Sideways”.
Even though Noah had the crowd tearing up throughout the show from his heartfelt songs, he also had the people up and dancing, including Paul Revere. As Noah played one of his newer songs “Paul Revere”, a fan emerged in a costume of the American Silversmith. You can find various videos of this man all over social media of him dancing in Bridgeport in his get up. I wished that Kahan noticed this fan dancing and said something witty because it had me chuckling from my seat.
Kahan ended the show with “Dial Drunk”. A small portion of me was hoping that Post Malone would show up and sing his verse of the song along side Noah. Even though Post Malone did not come, it did not change the vibe of the audience by any means. A roar of singing erupted throughout the stadium as Folk Malone sang his heart out to the crowd.
He thanked the fans for all of their love and support for his newest album. He believes that this album received great feedback and cannot believe that “Dial Drunk” has reached the top of the charts. Fans appreciated this dedication and started chanting “Noah, Noah, Noah..” in hopes for an encore after the end of the song. Obviously Noah had to give the fans what they wanted and jammed out three more of his most popular songs. A satisfied crowd left the stadium that night knowing they are about to have many dreams of what a great show Noah Kahan and his band let loose.
Nashville singer/songwriter Ruston Kelly opened the night with a strong ten song set that concluded with the title track off his latest album, The Weakness, released earlier this year. His music seemed to resonate well with the Kahan fans and was definitely a good fit.
