Not Enough Space was kind enough to it with AMP for this in-depth interview.
AMP Can you give our readers a brief history of the band?
NES: Not Enough Space was established in 2018 in Orlando, Florida by Lizzie Kristina (vocals) and Anthony Martinez (guitar and vocals). We initially played open mics and shows in Florida to help us shape our band’s identity. Over time, we decided to incorporate post-hardcore and metalcore elements into our sound. After a few member changes in 2022, Maurice Jones (drums) and Liv Mitchell (vocals) joined the project officially. 2023 marked a pivotal year for our band with the release of “No Way Out” and the addition of Tristan Kaos (guitar) and Jacob Sawyer (bass).
As we began to gain more traction, we completed our first full U.S. tour with Attila, Born of Osiris, Traitors, and Extortionist in the spring of 2024. In October 2024, we signed with Thriller Records and released “Primitive,” the first single from our upcoming full-length albu
AMP: Not Enough Space is truly a powerhouse. What’s the group’s secret weapon?
NES: We believe that our secret weapon is knowing how to work as a team and have fun with everything. We’re extremely passionate about the music we create and we love the collaborative process behind being in a band.
AMP: Do you feel that your use of dirty and clean vocals creates a certain dynamic dichotomy in your music?
NES: We believe that the way we write our clean and harsh vocals creates a dynamic that is reminiscent to the post-hardcore and metalcore sound that everyone loved from the 2000s and 2010s. Bands from those eras that we are heavily inspired by include A Day to Remember and Asking Alexandria.
AMP: What is your songwriting process like?
NES: We typically start out with instrumental, and Tristan, Reece, and Jacob all sit down and write out really sick demos that we bring into the studio. After that, we clean it up with our producers and make it sound super sick. Typically while the guys are writing the instrumental, Lizzie and Liv write lyrics together. Once lyrical concepts are brainstormed, everyone comes together to collaborate.
AMP: Your new single is “Solace In Silence.” Is there a story behind the track?
NES: Tristan and Liv wrote the song to describe the impact of mental health struggles and suicide on families and loved ones. It also explores how alcoholism can complicate the grieving process after losing someone to suicide. It’s a song that hits super close to home for us as a band.
AMP: The band is signed to Thriller Records. How did that come about and why is it a good fit?
NES: We absolutely love Thriller Records and the whole team! We got to meet one of Thrillers core members at our show in LA on our tour with Attila. It was a really great experience, and we love working with them! We think it’s a great fit because they allow us to be creative and really have fun with our brand as well as the music we write. They’re super supportive of anything and everything! We genuinely couldn’t ask for a better label.
AMP: Are there any current artists you feel an affinity with?
NES: This is a really great question! There’s so many artists that we pull inspiration from. Personally we all really love A Day to Remember, Asking Alexandria, Wage War, Suicide Silence, and Paramore. A lot of our core elements kinda sound similar to those bands since we all grew up listening to them a bunch.
AMP: Not Enough Space seems to be on a relentless tour schedule. Does any particular tour stop stand out?
NES: We love touring! Personally, our favorite stops on tours are Ohio, Pennsylvania and our home state Florida! So, I think we’re most excited to play those states again!
AMP: If the band could have written a particular album by any artist, which album would it be and why choose that one?
NES: That’s such a tricky question, we definitely all have so many different influences overall! I don’t think we can only just pick one, so we would have to say Homesick by A Day to Remember and Stand Up And Scream by Asking Alexandria. Our songwriting process is heavily inspired by those albums and we draw a lot of inspiration from them.
AMP: What’s next for Not Enough Space?
NES: We have so much planned for the rest of the year and for 2026! Genuinely looking forward to releasing more music and hopefully touring more and meeting all our fans! We’ve got some really great announcements coming here soon!
