POST PROFIT – ARTIST SPOTLIGHT & ALBUM REVIEW
Post Profit is an explosive young band whose music transcends boundaries. They just dropped their debut album entitled When You Think It’s Right, It’s Always Wrong. And what a release it is! The record is chock full of monstrous tracks that completely destroy. Post Profit‘s music shatters all preconceived notions of what hard rock should be. They bend musical genres to create something exciting, raw and totally fresh. Rock, metal, prog and rap are all thrown into the mix with the end result being something truly inspiring.
Post Profit hail from Longview, Texas. The group is comprised of Matt Jackson (Vocals/Guitar), Nick Hawner (Guitar), Jordan Conley (Bass) and Zach Hicks (Drums). They have supported countless major artists including Filter, Blacktop Mojo, Saliva and Drowning Pool. They also have performed at major festivals such as Welcome To Rockville and the So What?! Music Festival. Speaking about the new full length, Post Profit states:
“This release has been a long time coming for us. It took us 3 years to write, record, and put out this album. Recorded ourselves in the comfort of our own home, we hope everyone really connects to each of these songs and feels the emotion that we poured into this project. This is our big release, fully independent, and we are proud of the content we’ve made. We can’t wait for everybody to hear what we’ve been working on all this time”.
When You Think It’s Right, It’s Always Wrong is a majestic recording. The whole record is a tremendous tour de force that delivers pulverizing rhythms and embolden melodies. Every song possesses its own flavor and identity. I can’t find a favorite as each song is a separate galvanic gem. The album is full of melodic masterpieces and breathtaking soundscapes. It also carries a complete sound that will satisfy any listener’s taste.
WYTIR,IAW opens with the muscular “When You Think It’s Right”. The song is sonically charged with buzzsaw riffs and a kaleidoscope of sound. Jackson’s vocals are crisp and massive. Hicks’ percussions are full of denotating fervor. The groove hits you like a load of buckshot. And this only song 1. “Same Sad Song” is remastered from their 2019 single and the tune is a beast. Everything cranks. The harmonic tempo is addictive. The vocals are captivating. The guitars erupt into layers of gargantuan excitement. And this is only song 2.
“Mistakes and Skeletons” combines severals genres of music in order to create an all devouring brew of aural intensity. With “What’s Next”, Post Profit adds a captivating prog element into the pot. The song’s depth is utterly amazing. The cascading harmonies are a magnificent touch. And this is only song 4.
The next two songs are savage. “Smother” is pure nirvana. The tension filled cadence is exhilarating. Hawner’s guitar is filled with urgent riffs. Jackson’s voice is brimming with edgy angst. Conley’s bass is profoundly merciless and Hicks’ drums expel a myriad of vehement blasts. “We’re All Monsters” is a power-filled tune with a smooth tempo and impassioned vocals. The chorus is huge. The song is a ruthless banger. And this is only song 6.
“Seven” is a solid rock song that Post Profit satiates with an array of sophisticated incendiary textures. The tune finishes with a wonderful crescendo of sound. “Is This Joint Even Lit?” continues the auditory attack with a combusive beat and infectious guitars. Jackson’s vocals have a brutal fury and the tune has a discomforting hostility about it. The track hammers you with its sweeping pace and potent urgency. And this is only song 8.
“It’s Always Wrong” is the shortest song on the disc but probably the most poignant. The vocals are spoken in a despondent tone over an eerie musical backdrop. The singer expresses his anxieties and mental instability in a non-aggressive manner and one can feel his pain. “It’s Always Wrong” is a true representation of our post pandemic reality. “Haunt Me” is cinematic and melodically stunning. The music is elegantly enticing with a superb 311 vibe yet it remains spirited and inventive. The song showcases a more cultured side of Post Profit. And this is only song 10
WYTIR,IAW ends with two glowing compositions. “Life Isn’t Beautiful” is an impressive track with a perfect orchestration. All the pieces construct an amazing piece of aural artistry. Jackson’s voice is bold and the music is elegantly spacey. “Better Off” features Jon Jourdan whom we just wrote about in our last post on Mammoth WVH. He’s Wolfgang’s touring guitarist. “Better Off” is the ideal conclusion to a prodigious album with its singular precarious ambiance and engaging musicianship. Sorry to say, this is song 12.
With When You Think It’s Right, It’s Always Wrong, Post Profit has given the world a unbelievable debut album which will have no problem catapulting the band to the next level.
