PROFILER – ARTIST SPOTLIGHT & SINGLES REVIEW
Profiler is a Nu-metal/grunge three piece based out of the UK. The band just dropped a new track entitled “Operator” which is the third single released from their forthcoming debut album, A Digital Nowhere via SharpTone Records on 2/16. Profiler‘s sound is a mix of several dynamic musical genres including alt rock and metalcore. The band’s music is full of impressive riffs, thumping basslines and imposing percussions. Profiler is composed of Mike Evans (Vocals/Guitar), Joe Johnson (Bass) and Brad Ratcliffe (Drums).
After starting as a solo project in Bristol, UK, Mike stepped out from the studio and onto the stage, enlisting bassist/vocalist Joe Johnson and drummer Oscar Hocking. In early 2023, Oscar departed to be replaced by Brad Ratcliffe, cementing the line-up that would forge 2024’s debut album, A Digital Nowhere.
Before “Operator”, Profiler let loose a supersized two song single. “Animo” cranks with a devilish impetuousness. Evans’ vocals are singular with a gnarly edge. The guitars flare with a savage intensity. The backbeat is impassioned and muscular. The tune’s jagged arrangements adds to its cinematic feel. “All In Forever” is a high speed locomotive running off the rails. The sonic ferocity climbs to astronomical heights. Evans’ voice is full of flaring angst while his guitar hits like an aural tornado. Johnson’s bass is pummeling whilst Ratcliffe’s drums smack with a forceful vigor.
“Operator” continues the musical assault of “All In Forever”. The song has a hammering inflection but is more melodic in ambiance. Evans’ vocals float between tension filled turmoil to emotive fervency. The percussions shine with a psychotic anxiety. The bass is dark and menacing. “Operator” is mental devastation in its purest form. Speaking of “Operator”, Mike Evans comments:
“Operator is about the love between Neo and Trinity in the film The Matrix. This is my all time favorite movie so I had to write about the ideas behind it. The track talks about the simulated reality created by the machines and the concepts inspired by the franchise.”
Profiler‘s nu-metal-grunge-alt-rock, call it what you want, is an abrasive distorted soundscape that reverently glances back to those genres’ heydays. Profiler is for anyone who misses or missed the contagious nineties Seattle grunge movement or the explosion of nu-metal that dominated the 00s and the genre-bending bands they made a path for. Profiler is a beast of a band that is sure to turn heads in the very near future.
