RAY WHEATON / MIKE TRACY – QUEENIE
Ray Wheaton of King Kuel fame and Mike Tracy of Mike Tracy’s Man Cave have joined forces on a fabulous collaboration. “Queenie” is a delectable single that pays deference to classic rock while adding stellar modern nuances.
Wheaton‘s vocals are quite intense and dramatic. His voice has an extremely rich presence while still sounding gutsy. With King Kuel, Wheaton has that monstrous metal delivery. Here his inflections are more subdued and refined. You hear every note perfectly. There is almost a dreamy ambiance to his voice. It’s nice to experience another side of Wheaton.
Speaking about the song Wheaton espouses: “The music and video is all Mike. He’s easy and fun to work with. Lyrics, melodies and basic story board behind the lyrics are my own and he made it come to life“.
The musicianship on the single is spectacular. The cascading melodic soundscape is full of sublime textures. The hypnotic groove is profound with layers of rhythmic elements. Tracy transforms the idea behind the song and creates a lush symphonic treasure. The emotive sound of the guitars is stellar. As well as the impressive bass line. Tracy elevates the whole aura of the song with his dramatic production.
Speaking about the song’s inspiration Tracy says: “Sometimes the shared dream occurs at the same time for both people. In other cases, it does not. What is remarkable is that so much of the shared dream, sometimes including small details, are recalled as strikingly similar or even identical by the two people involved, regardless of the timing of their experiences“.
The video also conceived by Tracy is memorable with its use of comic book imagery coupled with real life projections. The plot mirrors the lyrics’ meaning quite well. You feel suspended in a dreamlike movie wondering if you are awake or not. Tracy totally captures the essence of the tune with his imaginative surreal narrative.
“Queenie” spotlights two of Connecticut’s best. Wheaton and Tracy are shooting stars and the skies the limit.
Additional backing vocals on “Queenie” was provided by the talented Chris Leland.
As a footnote, there will be a Mike Tracy interview later this month where he will delve further on his illustrious career and his future endeavors.
