RIZ LA VIE – ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Riz La Vie is a N.Y.C. based Lebanese-American rapper/singer who has dropped his new single, “Tesla” earlier this year. “Tesla” is the first single off of La Vie‘s E.P., Feed, being released on May 7th via AWAL.
Riz La Vie has released several stylish singles and E.P.s in the past few years. The 2019 E.P. Breathe containing the stunning “Saturn” and the 2018 single ,”Napkins”, followed two 2017 E.P.s. La Vie‘s laid back groove infused sound surrounds the listener with a velvety ambiance. The head bops and the eyes close as you listen to his smooth vocals and luxurious beats.
Discussing his inspiration for “Tesla”, Riz states, “I’ve always been a fan of the scientist/inventor Nikola Tesla. He is best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electric supply system. What he did is the most perplexing and beautiful thing. The song “Tesla” is the current. The song is the charge. Charging your life force. Speaking out and bringing thoughts, dreams and visions into existence. I’m inspired by the desire to create and the things that charged me with the ability to do that. When I started seeing the Tesla Roadster around, I, of course became a fan.”
“Tesla” opens with a strumming guitar and La Vie‘s glassy voice. In addition, the silky percussion sets the perfect climate. Riz‘s vocal styling creates a dreamy soundscape. The whole tune just flows with a marvelous cadence. Riz truly understands how to grab one by their very essence. You totally become immersed into his transcendent environment.
The song’s lyrics seem to describe what makes La Vie’s life “electric”. His relationship with a lover and his strive to survive as a struggling artist become entangled in his universal themes. The chorus runs:
Amethyst; she rests it on my head when the headache hits
Lemon mint; she mix it in the tea with turmeric
Edison; showin’ me the light I try to let it in
She my Edison for stayin’ parked by my side
I’ma let her let the Tesla whip, the Tesla whip
Charged like moonlight
I’ma let her let the Tesla whip, the Tesla whip
After listening to La Vie‘s elegant songs I am totally impressed with his songwriting and honest production. Nothing is overdone. Everything fits in consummate unity. I am looking forward to the new E.P., Feel. If “Tesla” is any indication, Feel will be colossal.
Riz La Vie was slated to support Two Feet on tour. I hope that remains the same when the COV19 virus runs it course because this is a perfect bill. The two complement each other ideally.
