SQUEEZE LIVE

Rock band Squeeze — featuring co-singer-songwriters Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook — had several hit singles in the ’80s.

Squeeze, the British pop band, brought their Join The Dots tour to College Street Music Hall in New Haven on December 3rd. Founding members Glen Tilbrook and Chris Difford fronted an amazing ensemble of seasoned musicians.  With Yolanda Charles on Bass/Vocals, Steve Smith on Percussion, Simon Hanson on Drums and Stephen Large on Keyboards, Tilbrook and Difford ran through a strong set of Squeeze classics.

Just to let you know I am a huge Squeeze fan and this was my first time experiencing them live. So I was psyched from the start.

Opening up with “Please Be Upstanding” from their The Knowledge release Squeeze kept the audience constantly on their feet. “Pulling Mussels (From A Shell) and “Hourglass” kept the energy high. Squeeze pulled no punches. “Annie Get Your Gun“, “Cool For Cats“, and “Another Nail In My Heart” in the middle of the show had the crowd ecstatic.

Squeeze kept rolling out the hits. The coupling of “Take Me I’m Yours” and “Tempted” even had me dancing in the aisle. Closing with “If I Didn’t Love You” and “Slap and Tickle” really popped. The encore of “Is That Love” and an extended version of “Black Coffee In Bed” was the perfect finale.

Not only was the music on par but Difford and Tilbrook’s banter was witty and entertaining. The entire evening was a microcosm of my 80s and 90s. The memories these songs brought back were priceless. This may have been my first Squeeze concert but I know It won’t be my last.
