THE DAMN TRUTH – SINGLE REVIEW & SUMMER UK TOUR
Montreal’s high-flying The Damn Truth have released a new single off of their prodigious 2021 full length Now or Nowhere. “Lonely” is a bluesy romp full of passion and lush textures. The song is a powerhouse of a track that was produced by the legendary Bob Rock (Aerosmith, Metallica). The critically acclaimed psychedelic band (Amp has featured them prominently in the past) also dropped a new video for the song. In addition, The Damn Truth have announced a summer UK tour accompanied by AMP faves, The Cold Stares and Empyre.
The Damn Truth is comprised of the fantastic Lee-LA Baum on vocals and guitar. Her voice is entirely intoxicating. Her vocal inflections are to die for. Everything she sings is pure dynamite with tons of explosive charges. Tom Shemer on guitar is extraordinary. He delivers a torrent of destructive riffs and his solos are atomic. PY Letellier on bass is ferocious and threatening while Dave Traina’s percussion slam like a sonic blast. This is a band whose music is totally pulverizing. They never hold back.
Their 2021 album, Now or Nowhere, is an aural tour de force (see our review down below in related). Every song is an imposing masterpiece. The Damn Truth don’t believe in fillers. “Lonely” is emotive and highly groove-laden with wailing guitars and a hammering bass line. The percussions are supersized with huge fills. Baum’s vocals are plainly evil while Shemer’s guitar is tenacious. His solo is flaming. Every note is audaciously muscular.
The “Lonely” video is truly cinematic. It features the band in the studio laced with shots of them in a smokey van. It’s based on a true story. Their tour van caught on fire just three day into their Canadian tour. Everyone escaped unscathed but they lost personal belongings and musical instruments. Reality meets art.
“Lonely” dovetails The Damn Truth’s summer concerts in the UK throughout July. The band will play a series of headline concerts and will also play Steelhouse Festival on Saturday July 29th. Tickets for the band’s July headline concerts are available from TheGigcartel.com
The Cold Stares will support The Damn Truth at London O2 Islington Academy 2 on July 21st. Empyre will support the band on all other dates, except Sheffield Greystones on June 30th, where support will come from Zac and the New Men and Tessio.
