THE HOWLING TIDES

The Howling Tides are a four piece hard rock band from the U.K.  I first became aware of them when I saw their video for “Crack My Soul”, the first single off their new E.P. appropriately called The Howling Tides. The music is raw and the tunes are kicking. I gave them a mention in my Social Media section under Twitter Finds Vol. 7.  After listening to the E.P. numerous times I became a huge fan. They capture the emotions of classic rock and transform them into something new and exciting. The Howling Tides are Rob Baynes on vocals/guitar, Hayden Kirk on guitar/vocals, Luke Lawrey on bass/vocals and Steven Herbert on drums. The E.P. is out on WDFD Records and is available on all major formats.

Following are a few questions I shot out to the band.

AMP: The Howling Tides morphed from Anonymous. What prompted the name change?

The Howling Tides: Change is natural and often essential. Under the old name it was difficult to establish a real presence online and created a lot of confusion. We feel the new name is much more memorable and better represents our music and vibe.

AMP: The new E.P.,The Howling Tides, was produced by Aynsley Lister. What was working with such a musical legend like?

The Howling Tides: Frankly it was an incredible experience to work with a musician of Aynsley’s class. He was always pushing us to reach our potential and his insight into songwriting, recording and technique were really invaluable. The dynamic was great and having him onside gave us a really amazing chance to have a world class musician shape the E.P. It’s not everyday you get to work with one of your heroes!

AMP: The Howling Tides blend many genres of music into a unified sound. How did your influences help create it?

The Howling Tides: The four of us are into a really huge range of music. We overlap in places and in other places less so but when we come together to write, this huge range of influences is filtered through a collective creative lens that yields some interesting and unexpected results…I’m not sure how exactly it works but it works!

AMP: There seems to be a resurgence of hard rock and metal in the U.K. How are the audiences reacting?

The Howling Tides: We’ve seen a huge surge of interest in the scene in recent times thanks to the sheer number of awesome bands who are killing it out here on the live scene. The NWOCR (New Wave of Classic Rock) movement is showing no signs of slowing down. And it seems the audiences are loving what’s happening.

AMP: How does the band feel about the countless accolades the new E.P. is getting?

The Howling Tides: We’re all really proud and also incredibly humbled. We always had real belief in the E.P. We knew the name change could be a make or break scenario but ultimately there’s no reward without risk! The end goal was always to make an E.P. we were proud of no matter what. The fact that so many other people are enjoying it is just amazing!

AMP: Where do you see the Howling Tides a year from now?

The Howling Tides: We’ve always been driven and ambitious and have been through many highs and lows over the years. With that in mind, we’ll continue to gig hard and shape our craft. Hopefully moving on to bigger and better shows and getting our name out as much as possible. New music is definitely part of the plan!

AMP: The band has a reputation for having awesome live shows. When will the U.S. get to see you?
The Howling Tides: If it was up to us we’d be on the plane right now. We couldn’t put a date on it just yet but it’s definitely an ambition and something we’d love to do without question.

AMP would like to thank the band for their time and energy putting this together. The Howling Tides are an exceptional band and I urge everyone to listen to the new release. You won’t be disappointed.
