THE MIX
What do you get when you combine a dynamic live show with an array of classic and modern rock hits and superb musicianship. You get The Mix.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to catch The Mix, a six piece cover band, at Jake’s in Wallingford. The Mix hail from Shelton, Ct. and even though Jake’s is a fair distance, the house was packed. The band played a dynamic blend of rock that had the crowd constantly on their feet.
From the first notes of “Feels Like the First Time” by Foreigner to the last notes of AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell” The Mix kept the room moving. Their musical skills were spot on. Jorge Formical’s vocals were amazing. His range and pitch was perfect on every song. Keyboardist Ed Burns ,who also sang lead on several tunes, was excellent. His charisma was a major plus. The backbeat combo of Kenny Burns (Drums} and Bob Ambrose (Bass} kept the entire set grounded. Guitarists Chris Kalafus and Franco Buzan were crisp and sharp.
Their set got better the longer they played. By the time they got to Radiohead’s “Creep” and Def Leppard’s “Rock Of Ages” the dance floor was packed. The audience just ate it up. Ending the first set with “Highway To Hell” was ideal.
The Mix’s live show showcased the professionals they are. They entertained their onlookers with their fan interaction.Their intermingling with the throng just made the evening so much fun.
Actually that’s the best word for The Mix: FUN. My entire group of friends left the club with big smiles. We all had FUN.
