THE SPARKLE & FADE AT THE CELLAR ON TREADWELL
I recently put together a show at the Cellar on Treadwell on Saturday, October 16th revolving around a relatively new CT. band called The Sparkle & Fade, whom I have worked with on a few other occasions. I knew the first time I saw these guys (and gals) live that they had a very different chemistry about them, as
they immediately stood out as a project that wasn’t like most bands around the area. Everything from their detail in songwriting, to the clever arranging and extremely tight vocal harmonies really caught my attention. It was apparent to me that this band was very well rehearsed, and they clearly have a solid vision of how they present their material to their audience.
The Sparkle & Fade is a 6 piece, pop rock band out of Connecticut, that consists of lead vocalist Lindsey Callahan, Lead Guitarist Jeff Callahan, Rhythm Guitarist/Background Vocalist Tyler Seeley, Bassist TJ Chalfant, Drummer Joe Onofrio, and the charismatic Courtney Seeley on Keys and Backing Vocals, who also fronts her own original trio called “Green Light.” The group formed in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. They have released 3 singles and an 8 song EP throughout their short career thus far. Joining The Sparkle & Fade on this show was Sofia Nunzia, who is a 14-year-old songwriting and performing prodigy. Sofia, without a doubt is heading toward great things in her career, having just released her first single called “Do or Die,” which was recorded and produced in Nashville, Tennessee. Also joining in on this show was a stripped down version of the well-known powerhouse band Chaser Eight, who brought an acoustic duo consisting of Audra and Jessica who called themselves simply, “Chaser Eight Naked.” The duo played powerful, acoustic versions of the tunes you would expect to hear from their full band show, and they went above and beyond to deliver a high-energy, power set to pump up the extremely healthy crowd that turned out.
The Sparkle & Fade took the stage around 10 pm, and from the very first note, I knew that we were all going to be in for an amazing performance. They opened with an original song that is called, “A Little More,” and transitioned into another original called, “Not The Enemy,” which is a hard hitting, guitar driven
piece. By the time the band finished their opening pair of songs, the crowd was hooked and wanted more. After a quick tuning, they went into another original called, “We’ve Got it All,” that had everyone on their feet and feeling good. From there they transitioned into a cover of Chvrches, “Get Out,” which they nailed and went right into the title track of their EP, “Find a Way,” which starts off with an amazing synth and piano arrangement, and ends up in a guitar heavy chorus layered with impeccable vocal harmonies. From there, the band introduced a new song that they call for now, “New Song,” which was just as well written and performed as the others in the set. From there, they took us to another original called, “Up In The Air,”
which is the lead off song on their 2021 release. This song starts with a very pleasant, 90’s style pop-punk guitar riff and resolves into a very mainstream, heavy chorus, again with super tight vocal harmonies layered underneath.
The night continued with yet another well-written original called, “Live Life Out Loud,” which had a drum, bass and vocal driven first verse that built into a powerful chorus, following suit with their signature vocal harmonies. The band then introduced their second cover song of the night that was an electric arrangement of Noel Gallagher’s “Dead In The Water.” The band then transitioned into their third and final cover of the evening that was Katy Perry’s, “ET,” and that song had everyone in the bar on
their feet and completely pumped up. Their final song for the night was another original called, “Letting Go” which starts with a super cool synth line that leads into their signature sounding verses, and resolving into their power house choruses. Their last note was played over a packed house screaming for more, and although the band didn’t have another song in the tank for the night, I am sure they have
plenty in the pipeline that they are diligently working on, to perfectly introduce to the world at just the right time.
If you get a chance, it is well worth checking out The Sparkle & Fade, as their shows will not disappoint, nor will their music that is available on all the popular, online music outlets.
