THRICE
Welcome to the resurrection. California’s long lived post-hardcore band, Thrice, has risen from the dead. After a five year hiatus Thrice has delivered To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere (TBEITBN), their ninth studio album. The band renowned for major departures of style with each new release does not disappoint with TBEITBN. Here we witness the birth of a more focused and ambitious Thrice. Dustin Kensrue’s vocals still retains its aggressive overtones but with a new raspy maturity. Teppie Teranishi’s guitar remains intense and manic but also has glimpses of reserved experimentation. Eddie and Riley Breckenridge’s backbeats are solid and gutsy. Both seasoned and new fans will find a lot to salute in To Be Everywhere Is To Nowhere. Fiery vocals, confrontational lyrics, and uncompromising musicianship frames its entire length. The album opens with “Hurricane”, a plodding cathartic dirge of a song that marries Teranishi’s strong guitar licks with Kensrue”s raucous voice. “Blood On The Sand” continues the assault with an uptempo rocker worthy of monster hit status. “Wake Up”, “The Long Defeat”, “Death From Above” and “Whistleblower” are all powerful songs with poignant messaging. They give insight to Thrice’s passionate political views. Both “The Window” and “Salt and Shadow” embellish the more toned downed and ambitious aspect of Thrice. “The Window” both eerily beautiful and dynamic. “Salt and Shadow” ethereal and haunting. “Black Honey”, the second single release, is definitely the apex of TBEITBN. Another politically charged song with a driving beat and killer chorus. All in all not only is TO Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere a long awaited gift but by far Thrice’s crowning achievement.
