THE GRAVEL PROJECT / JOANNA CONNOR / LAMMPING
THE GRAVEL PROJECT
In November we reviewed several singles from Boston’s The Gravel Project. The band is an exceptional quartet that intertwines some devilish blues with delicious funk. The group is headed by brothers Andrew (Vocals/Guitar) and Jordan (Keyboards) Gravel with the addition of Dave Fox on drums and Brandon Mayes on percussion. The Gravel Project is dropping a new single, “No More Fire” on January 20th.
“No More Fire” is a smoking hot concoction of sizzling funky blues. Andrew’s vocals are scorching while Jordan’s organ floats swirling layers of rhythmic dynamite. The on point percussion duo of Fox and Mayes lay down some astounding beats. The song is a powerful powder keg of pure joy and proves that The Gravel Project are a force to be reckoned with. LAMMPING
Lammping is a new psych-rock outfit out of Toronto, formed by multi instrumentalist Mikhail Galkin and drummer Jay Anderson. Lammping released their debut album, Bad Boys of Comedy in 2020. Their excellent new EP is the interesting New Jaws. The five song endeavor is full of aural candy. And I mean the cool candy. Their music expands the reaches of the entire psychedelic genre to create something totally unique and original.
Lammping‘s sound remains rooted in Anderson’s heavy drumming and Galkin’s melodic riffs. In addition the group experiments with inventive and clever samples and a varied use of visionary instrumentation. “The Funkiest” is an outright wonder of a song with its rousing rhythm and heavenly vocals.
