TRASHING VIOLET – ROAM/EGGS -SINGLES REVIEW
Trashing Violet is a four piece adrenaline-filled powerhouse based out of Connecticut. The band is composed of Marisa B (Vocals/Guitar), Anna V (Guitar), Doug E (Bass/Vocals) and Nick D (Drums/Vocals). Trashing Violet delivers a hard hitting punk/pop sound with a strong indie rock flavor. The group is notorious for their propulsive live shows where they push every song to the limit. They are fierce defenders of potent guitar licks, driving rhythms and never dull performances. Their lyrics are also as eclectic as their music. They cover all the bases from relationships to social commentary. Trashing Violet is an unique ensemble that cares about good music, edgy fun and human rights.
This year Trashing Violet released two resolute singles. The first, “Roam” is gutsy power-punk tune with rampaging riffs and a tenacious beat. Marisa B’s vocals have a placid fury with a dramatic lilt. Anna V’s guitar carries a spaghetti western twang which adds a singular flavor. Nick D’s emboldened drumming fits the song like a glove and Doug E’s bass has that perfect galvanic tenacity. “Roam” has an eruption of flavors that gives it an exceptional gutsy punch,
Marisa gives AMP an exclusive insight behind the song:
“Eggs” is a straight ahead punk anthem with a hammering chorus. Trashing Violet uses “eggs” as a simple metaphor about the state of today’s romantic liaisons. The band fluctuates between rapid fire punk chords and slower sensitive pop interludes. This scrambling of musical genres is a important part of the Trashing Violet psyche. They blend their sound in order to create an adventurous hybrid soundscape. It’s what makes them exceptional.
Marisa also expounds on “Eggs”:
The song offers a fresh take on Tinder culture, about the inevitability that most one-night stands don’t turn into epic love stories. It’s a warning to women who read too much into little gestures, like making eggs for a lover, which are cliché though deceptively romantic. In other word, don’t get your hopes up!!
Trashing Violet is a definite must hear and see. Their pumped up muscular flair and poignant lyrics make them a band to watch. Their live shows are always ruthlessly exciting. I see nothing but positive for their future.
Marisa B (Marisa Torrieri Bloom) is also an accomplished journalist who writes about balancing one’s life as a musician with family in her phenomenon blog Rockmommy. Marisa has gratuitously agreed to write several features for AMP in the near future. We couldn’t be more pleased.
