WAKE THEORY
Wake Theory is a fast rising hard rock ensemble out of Alexandria, Louisiana. The five piece band composed of Rick Ferrier (Vocals), Ant Jones (Guitar), Hailey Bolton (Guitar), Mark Taylor (Bass) and Joey Cooksey (Drums) have signed with MxD Records based in Berlin, Germany. They also penned a deal with Integrity Music Management home to Tantric and Saving Abel.
After listening to several released songs from their upcoming album, Hypnotized , we at AMP can easily say that Wake Theory is poised to create a music tsunami. Their strong vocals and monstrous riffs will catapult Wake Theory into the stratosphere.
The following is an interview with bassist Mark Taylor.
AMP: This is a great opportunity for AMP. It’s really exciting to interview a band right before they are about to blow up. Where have you guys been and how did the band form?
WAKE THEORY: I had been working on writing and recording for about 3 years and started getting “the itch” to get back in the music scene. Rick and I were in separate bands that played a lot of local shows together in the early 2000’s but we lost contact with each other after those bands ran their course. In January 2018 Rick added me on Facebook and I sent him a message to see if he’d be interested in getting something going and he was on board with the idea. We started working on music which honestly wasn’t all that great considering I’m a bass player trying to write and record guitar parts. However, again through Facebook Ant sent me a message looking to borrow a guitar. Ant and I were in a band together from 2010 to 2011 and he was hands down the best guitarist and song writer I’ve ever worked with. So in exchange for borrowing my guitar I recruited him to work with Rick and I. As soon as we added Ant to the mix the sound you hear in our music today was born. Joey and Hailey were added to the line up because during the writing process we were just programming drum and second guitar parts. They were the icing on the cake.
AMP: We’ve heard several amazing songs from your upcoming album. What’s it like in the studio?
WAKE THEORY: Everything you’ve heard is initially recorded at Ant’s house. The guy is studio wizard! Joey and I record our tracks at home as well and send them to Ant. Technology has advanced tremendously over the years so that in our case our “studio experience” has been recording home in our underwear transferring files back and forth.
AMP: How did your deals with MxD Records and Integrity Music Management develop?
WAKE THEORY: We were selected through ReverbNation for an opportunity to have a song mixed and mastered by MxD Recordings in Berlin, Germany for free. We sent our song “Forever” to James (producer/mixer) at MxD and when we heard his final product we decided he was our “go to” for mixing and mastering the rest of the album. Integrity Music Management (IMM) was kind of an out of left field experience. They approached us to offer their services and at first we were hesitant and unsure if we even needed management. But Dee at IMM is a hell of a salesman. He manages several notable acts such as Tantric and Saving Abel and he has the contacts to get us opening for big name acts in huge arenas. Dee will make sure the world knows who Wake Theory is.
AMP: The band hales from Louisiana. How has the local scene embraced the band?
WAKE THEORY: The local scene has a tightly knit bond and we’re all one big family. Our buddies in Raven Camp (shout out!) have been super generous in sharing their drummer with us and Come 2 Life (another shout out!) is allowing us to mooch some shows. Musically both band are as solid as they get and the most chill people around. Better than have the stuff you hear on the radio. Look them up on Facebook. Alexandria, Louisiana is about to steal the title “Rock City” from Detroit.
AMP: The song “My Baby Girl” is amazing. Being the father of three girls I want to thank you for such a moving lyric. It’s definitely a departure from the rest of the tracks. What kind of reaction has it garnished?
WAKE THEORY: Glad you like it Ralph! All of the guys in he band have daughters. It definitely shows our softer side. It’s a three minute roller coaster of emotions. It’s nothing like any of our other songs. It has an appeal that fans of any genre can enjoy. If you buy the album for “My Baby Girl” we apologize in advance about the rest of the songs.
AMP: Once Hypnotized is released are there any tours schedule for support?
WAKE THEORY: Yeah, Dee at IMM is working on some pretty exciting shows for us right now. The album is already written and recorded. We’re working on funding for the post production end of things right now which can get a bit pricey. We have setup a GoFundMe account with incentives for anyone who donates as well as a merch store.
I want to thank Mark and the rest of Wake Theory for their time and energy. By all means check them out. You will not be disappointed. They are the real deal.
