WHITECHAPEL / BODYSNATCHER / ANGELMAKER / DISEMBODIED TYRANT

By Donna Marie Eriquezzo

Whitechapel brought their Rituals of Hate tour with Bodysnatcher, AngelMaker, Disembodied Tyrant to Toad’s Place on November 16, 2025

It is a cold rainy day but that did not stop me from driving to Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT to see Whitechapel and I am so glad I did. I have never seen any of these bands before except Bodysnatcher and what a killer show this was!

First on the stage was Disembodied Tyrant. Their singer Blake Mullen’s was in a freak accident and unable to perform so they had fill-in singers. Trevor Teichart (Winters Gate) and Ryan Vail (Synestia/LarcEnia RoE) performed and I thought they did a great job.

Disembodied Tyrant is a deathcore/death-metal band from Missouri that blends symphonic elements with deathcore and they are known for their technicality and cinematic sound. Members are Blake Mullens on vocals, Dominic Petrocelli on guitar and backing vocals, Lucas Koughan on bass, and Kevin Alexanderon drums.

These guys crushed it going from fast and technical to slow and extremely heavy, performing to a sold-out crowd who went crazy for the band with a lot of crowd surfing going on. I was really impressed with these guys and loved the heavy sound and melodic beat.

Next on the stage was another band I was seeing for the first time called AngelMaker whose members are Casey Tyson-Pearce and Ian Bearer on vocals, Colton Bennett, Matt Perrin, and Johnny Ciardullo on guitar, Cole Rideout on bass and Steven Sanchez on drums.

AngelMaker is a Canadian deathcore band from Vancouver and these guys have a technically proficient sound which blends atmospheric elements with brutal breakdowns. I thought it was really killer the way they had 2 vocalists who had a big range of styles from high-pitched screams to guttural lows and they incorporated other elements of metal such as black metal and hardcore.

Their music touches on personal struggles as well as worldly concepts. I really loved their slow and heavy riffs mixed with fast and technical and loved that they had 2 vocalists as well as 3 guitarists, these guys are a powerhouse and the crowd loved them and went crazy moshing and crowd surfing.

The 3rd band on the stage was Bodysnatcher who I saw before but they were even better this time. They have a heavy but groovy sound with riffs that make you want to bang your head and callouts that you cant help but scream along to and they go into breakdowns that get your energy really high.

The lead vocalist’s powerful growls echoed through the venue drawing in new and old fans alike. Bodysnatcher has an undeniable way of connecting with the audience as they showcased their raw talent and passion and the crowd joined in singing along and moshing.

These guys hit the stage hard and heavy and the crowd was going nuts with a lot of crowd surfing going on. Bodysnatcher was formed in 2014 and released their debut album in 2015 called Abandonment . Since then they have released three studio albums, Death of Me in 2017, This Heavy Void in 2019, and Bleed-Abide in 2022. They released their second EP, Vile Conduct in 2024.

Bodysnatcher consists of Kyle Medina on vocals, Kyle Carter on guitar, Kyle Shope on bass, and Chris Whited on drums. Bodysnatcher is a deathcore band from Melbourn, Florida and their lyrics are about domestic strife and toxic people as well as hardships. Two of their notable songs are “Absolved of the Strings and Stone” which is about gaslighting and “Hollow Shell” which is about strained family dynamics. If you haven’t seen these guys I highly recommend you get out to see them

And finally Whitechapel hit the stage hard with a more melodic introduction that went right into super heavy part that really got the crowd going. Phil Bozeman just rumbles your soul with his super low gutturals, and the three guitarists with their earth shattering guitar tones and riffs. Every song in the set before the encore was from their newest album, Hymns of Dissonance and after the encore were some old school songs that haven’t been played in about 10 years. Whitechapel mixes slow, heavy riffs with fast technical drums in their own unique way. This was the ”Ritual of Hate” tour and was a SOLD OUT SHOW!!!!

Whitechapel is an American deathcore band from Knoxville, Tennessee and is named after the Whitechapel district in East London, England where Jack The Ripper committed a series of murders. The band is comprised of Phil Bozeman on vocals, Ben Savage, Alex Wade, and Zach Householder on guitars, Gabe Crisp on bass, and Brandon Zackey on drums.

Whitechapel was formed in 2006 by Bozeman and Savage and they have released nine studio albums and 22 music videos and are currently signed to Metal Blade Records. Their newest album Hymns of Dissonance was released on March 7, 2025.

I really did not know if I was going to enjoy this show as deathcore is not a genre I usually listen to but I have to say that all of the bands were amazing and I had a really good time. I’m so glad I went. If you haven’t seen these bands before I highly recommend that you do. They all put on one hell of a show. These bands Do Not Disappoint!!
