J NOIRE – AN ARTIST SPOTLIGHT AND SINGLE REVIEW

By Ralph Beauchamp

J Noire is the new project of Nashville based artist Jake Johnson. J Noire just released its debut single entitled “Radiate” via Vaux Records founded by Craig Ericson. Their sound meshes the dynamic energy of modern rock with nu-metal elements. Johnson fuses polished edges with raw soundscapes in order to create music that easily transcends. J Noire‘s forges grooves that are both atmospheric and engaging.

Johnson had been a professional Nashville musician who flourished in the city’s Broadway scene but always wanted more. After a chance meet with Craig Ericson (Rise Records), J Noire was among the first signings to Ericson’s new venture, Vaux Records. Ericson, who help develop such illustrious artists as Sleeping With Sirens and Beartooth, quickly saw Johnson’s amazing potential.

J Noire‘s first single is the potent “Radiate”. “Radiate” defining singularity is the fact that it shifts between strength and vulnerability. The song features hammering guitar riffs and expansive vocals. Johnson’s voice is crisp while still displaying an explosive verve. His growls are aggressive and quite effective. The track promotes reflective passages while the choruses soar with vibrancy. Yet, the song hits hard. The entire ambiance of “Radiate” feels fresh and contemporary.

Johnson’s passionate songwriting strives to explore new sonic textures and artistic avenues. His melodies are memorable and he animates “Radiate” with charismatic inflections. The song is the first of several releases this year culminating with a forthcoming EP, Prometheus. Johnson, working alongside producer Ryan Furlott, crafted a sound that is uniquely original.

Speaking about “Radiate”, J Noire states:

“It’s a song about hope, and these days I feel like we need songs to remind people that there’s ALWAYS hope, love, and purpose in life. We all deserve that spark, something that radiates.”

Joining Johnson on this musical journey are bassist Steve Stokes and drummer Danny Laverde making J Noire more than just a studio project. The project is already generating early industry buzz thanks to the partnership with Ericson and the strength of the debut material, J Noire is a band with a huge future and a distinctive musical identity. If “Radiate” is any indication, Prometheus will surely shake up the musical universe.
