PINWHEEL – AN ARTIST SPOTLIGHT & SINGLES REVIEW

Pinwheel is a five piece out of Austin whose music is both aggressive and hard hitting. They just released a blistering new single entitled “Hush”. Fronted by the cinematic Bella Renee, Pinwheel‘s sound incorporates propulsive guitar riffs, powerful vocals and intense choruses. Renee’s vocals are all shattering with edgy inflections. She is a new talent whose brazen voice gives Pinwheel both texture and depth.
In addition to Renee, Pinwheel is comprised of Mark Sean, a three-time Billboard-charting songwriter and former member of Black Heart Saints; guitarist James Austin Wadkins, whose prowess and tension elevate every sonic turn; bassist Cameron McHenry, laying down hypnotic low-end that shifts like smoke; and drummer Terrin Burton, bringing relentless pulse and precision.
Currently, Pinwheel has three songs in their catalogue and each one delivers sonic fury. “Glass Ceiling” is a monstrous adventure into aural devastation. The guitars are deep with heavy intonations. McHenry’s bass emits tenacious vapors while Burton’s percussions are slithery with explosive fills. Renee’s vocals are mysterious with both dynamic screams and melodic interludes. The entire track feels thick and sludgy yet it still emotes an astral ambiance. An amazing first single.
“Lapse” exposes a different side of Pinwheel. The song has an aural smoothness to it. “Lapse” is a blend of several different musical genres. You can hear elements of psychedelia mixed with funk, hard rock and grunge. The track truly floats with brazen passages of imposing vigor. The guitar solo is perfectly in synch while the backbeat delivers an eerie spirit. Bella’s voice is infused with exotic toxins which swell as the song progresses.
Pinwheel‘s latest is “Hush”. It’s their most tenacious and dangerous track yet. The guitars surge with wicked ferocity. The bass flares like molten metal and the drums snap with a voracious determination. Once again, Renee’s vocals take center stage. Her voice blazes with unbridled ardor. It’s both mystical and full of turmoil. The subject matter is also ominous. It deals with family relationships and childhood angst. Speaking about the introspective theme, Renee states:
“‘Hush’ is an outcry from a younger version of myself. An angry kid who grew up to realize they are nothing like they thought they’d be. Toxic family relationships contributed to my childhood anger and ‘Hush’ is an expression of that rage, resentment, and who it made me today.”
Pinwheel is on the verge. They will easily conquer the modern music scene. Their sound is contagious and captivating. The infinite amount of galvanic flavoring they let loose in their music will infect your very soul. It’s just a matter of time. Be forewarned!
