SPARROWS EAT CROWS – AN ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Sparrows Eat Crows is a hard hitting three piece out of Southern California whose grungy overtones have created a new space in the current hard rock universe. The band just released a new single entitled “Skinwalkers” that punches with power and verve. The single is a perfect example how grunge influences can be used to devise modern music that feels both fresh and intriguing. SEC combines devastating licks with spatial beauty in order to command aural nirvana.
Sparrows Eat Crows is comprised of Aden Mackness (Vocals/Guitar), Ben Taylor (Bass) and Omar Ruiz (Drums). Each musicians is a major force. Mackness’ vocals are enormous. From aggressive screams to melodic corridors, his voice is impressive. In addition, his guitar distributes brazen gnarly riffs. Taylor’s bass rumbles with authority while Ruiz’s drums are dramatically edgy. Their tracks feature threatening soundscapes yet still hold a sense of profound relevancy.
Besides “Skinwalkers”, Sparrow Eats Crows have dropped some impressive new material. “Gods That Fade” is a total grunge fest. The song harbors brutal accents that detonate into a sonic barrage of mayhem. Mackness’ vocals flair with unbridled savagery. The backbeat swells with violent vigor. The track highlights the intensity of Sparrows Eat Crows‘ music. Even the arrangement is supersized with imposing intonations.
In 2024, Sparrows Eat Crows let loose the full length, Red Tide Rising. The album contains seven raging tracks. Songs like “Blood”, “Dumptruck” and “Red Tide Rising” all spotlight the fiery tension the band infuses into their music. Everything hits with massive voracity. SEC offer you no relief. The textures are incendiary and the cadences are all-devouring. This is not for the nonchalant. This ensemble takes no prisoners.
Another aspect of their music is the fact that Sparrows Eat Crows‘ songwriting is towering with hammering inflections and magnificent weight. Their songs are dense and impenetrable. Each tune carries a muscular concentration of sonic demolition. “Burn The Sky” demonstrates how the band morphs melody and anarchy in order to forge a paradoxical musical union. Sublime pathways lead to menacing arenas of blistering grooves. This is what makes the group distinct and original.
in retrospect, band like Sparrows Eat Crows and Return To Dust are reimaging what grunge looks like for a future generation. They have given new breathe to a genre worthy of welcoming back with open arms. More broadly, these artists are revitalizing hard rock and alternative music in a total positive aspect. SEC deserves a listen because they provide a sound that is universally essential. Give them a listen.
